For Ueda, his relationships with his co-members was more than fine, it was excellent. He could talk to them normally and naturally; he could argue with them and reconcile; he could also talk to them about personal things and they would gladly give an advice in return. That’s what friends are for, right?
But now… when one of his co-members go all angry at him, the leader, things were starting to get panicky. What if he was really being unfair? What if the others felt disappointed with him too, he being close to Junno? What if…
“No!” Ueda cried out, grabbing a fistful of his hair. “I’m not being biased… It just happened that Junno and I are recently being close… There was a time when I was close to Kame… and Jin…” he trailed off, shaking his head in utter dismay. “…they should’ve told me if I was being biased..”
Would they? A sarcastic voice asked on his head. No they wouldn’t they would just shake their heads and slowly go away from you.
“N-no… That can’t be…” Ueda stammered. What if he lost all his friends? Had he been terrible as a leader and as a friend?
Perhaps.
“NO!” he shouted more fiercely than ever. Then he grabbed his phone and dialed Jin’s number. “Jin, answer the phone, please,” Ueda muttered in desperation. “Don’t tell me that you’re angry at me too. Please answer the phone!” he cried in frustration.
“Argh... Who’s this?” Jin’s voice was impatient. Very impatient.
“Jin.. I just wanted to ask you if..” Ueda stuttered, removing tears from his eyes with hi right hand.
“Ne? What is it?” Jin asked, now inquisitive. “And… are you crying?”
Ueda gulped. “N-no! My voice is just croaky and all. Anyway, is it okay? It’s already midnight.”
“Yes, it’s fine with me.”
Ueda nodded. “I… I was just going to ask you something…” he trailed off, unsure of what to say next.
“Eh? Have you got a problem?”
“W-well… It could be called as a problem…”
“Did Ryo tease you?”
Ueda gasped. “No! I wouldn’t cry over that!”
There was a hint of amusement in Jin’s voice. “Ahh. So you did cry.”
“I did not!” Ueda was indignant.
“Really?” Jin’s voice was getting more and more interested in this conversation. “You just told me you cried.”
A-ha. Busted. “Fine.” A deep sigh. “I did cry, no big deal.”
“Not for you. But for us, it is.” Jin spoke sharply. “We’re your friends, so please do not keep us in the dark. One day and you might just realize that you’re on your own. Alone.” The last word weighed heavily on Ueda’s part.
“I wanted to ask you if…” Ueda trailed off.
“What?” Jin was patient for his answer.
“Eh, I was just going to ask if you’ve got any problems with me…” he replied, somewhat hesitant.
Jin’s voice became alarmed. “Eh? Why?”
“Answer my question.”
“Hmm…” Jin scratched his chin, thinking. “Sometime we get into small fights, but we compromise, and you’re good in being a friend and a leader, so I guess not.” Jin sighed. “Unless…”
Ueda jumped. “Unless… what?”
“Unless…” a smirk was heard in Jin’s voice. “Unless you count your favoritism on a particular member.”
“WHA-” Ueda’s face was expressionless. “I favor a particular co-member? Who?!?” he asked indignantly at Jin.
“Hey. Forget that I said that.” Jin replied uneasily. “I was just joking.”
Ueda rapped his desk angrily. “No, you’re not.”
“I am. Hey, Ueda, I’d better hung up, someone’s strangling me-ah! Kazu-chan! Get off me, now! Argh! Don’t pounce on me! Aiiiiiiiiiii!!” Jin screamed like a girl. “Kaaaazuu-channn! Haiiii! Stop ittttt!” he screamed even more, obviously being tickled and pounced by Kmae on the other line.
“Jin?” Ueda asked worriedly. “Are you alright?”
“Kame here.” Kame replied back. “Your talk is over, I’m getting impatient, and rather jealous.” He added. “I can’t let you have our private time. So, like, sayonara!” he giggled.
Ueda ogled at his phone blankly.
He heard Jin’s high-pitched voice. “Eh, eh, see you tomorrow, Ueda!” then he heard a soft click.
Ueda just shrugged and couldn’t help but give a small grin.

Ueda tried on calling Koki. “I hope he’s still awake… I could ask his opinion too.” He said, staring at him phone determinedly.
“Hello?” Koki’s voice was lazy. And sleepy.
Ueda bit his lip. “Sorry to disturb you. Are you sleeping already?”
Rustle of clothes was heard on the other line. Finally, a groan and said, “Yes, I’ve been sleeping. But you’ve awaken me up with your impatient and loud phone call so I guess…”
Ueda did not wait him to finish. “Tell me, have you got any problems with me?” he asked hastily.
“What?” Koki replied, and then shrugged. “No, none at all.” And then he yawned.
“Um… Do you think I’m being biased? As your leader?” Ueda continued.
“Kame acts as the other leader…” Koki corrected him.
“But it’s different. Kame’s Kame, and I am me.” Ueda grumbled impatiently. Definitely he did not think of Kame as not a KAT-TUN leader… But still. The managers had to consult him first because he’s the official leader and all, although he suggests they tell Kame first. And what Koki said was an insult.
“Sorry if I insulted you. I’m just not in the mood for talking right now.” Koki yawned again.
Ueda sighed and then nodded. “Sorry to bother you, you can sleep now. I’ll just call the others.”
“Why don’t you call Maru?” Koki suggested. “He’s good at advices-”
“Bye.” Ueda said and snapped the phone shut.

I’ll just call Junno. Ueda nodded to himself and dialed Junno’s number. Crossing his fingers, he hoped that Junno was still awake.
“Yo! Ueda!” Junno greeted cheerfully at the other line. “What’s up? Is something bothering you?”
Ueda had to admit that Junno was really a sensitive and a caring friend. “How did you know?”
Junno laughed.
“You don’t call a person at one in the morning for nothing. Especially when it comes to you.”
“Ah, yes…” Ueda nodded. “Anyway, there is something bothering me.”
Junno gulped. “Is this about Maru?”
Ueda widened his eyes in shock. “How did…?”
“-I just do.” Junno replied with a smile on his voice. “Anyhow, don’t mind him. He’s just suffering some tummy ache until today.”
“Ah? He told you that?” Ueda inquired, now concerned.
Junno blinked. “Actually no.”
“Huh.” Ueda raised his eyebrow. “Right.”
Junno forced out a loud voice. “As I said, don’t worry about it, I’m sure he’ll be alright. All of us experience our bad days, don’t we?” he asked sheepishly.
“But this one’s different…” Ueda tried to reason out.
“Ah! I have to sleep now! See you tomorrow!” Junno exclaimed gaily. “I hope I could get paired with… you know.” He purred. “Bye!” then, a soft click was heard.
Ueda bit his lip as he tried to explain the weirdness of it all. Finally exhausted, he flopped down and closed his eyes, hoping that tomorrow would be better.
