“What was that all about?” Kame crossed his eyebrows not looking too pleased.
They had just finished their Messenger performance and everyone went to the dressing room to change. KAT-TUN only had ten minutes to do that and they shall be going onstage again to perform another song. The dressing room had a hot aura around it and everyone was sweating profusely. Double it and you get Kame’s angry mood.
“What did I do?” Ueda grumbled as he removed the white jacket which was wrapped around his small waist. It turned out that it wasn’t only Kame who was annoyed, either. After removing the jacket, he placed it carefully on his dressing chair which was next to Maru’s.
Kame tapped his foot impatiently. “You don’t know?”
“Know what?” Ueda raised an eyebrow.
Jin grumbled and stamped his foot as he removed his shirt then shot Ueda a piercing stare. Junno shook his head furiously several times as he knelt down to check his sneakers. Koki mumbled something incoherent and judging from the look on his face, it wasn’t positive either.
Only Nakamaru looked puzzled and glanced from to Ueda repeatedly, trying to decipher what the fuss was all about.
“What?!?” Ueda’s mood was perfect for him to get into a fight. Great.
Kame rolled his eyes and said, “A while ago, during the performance…you made a mistake and I’m sure everyone noticed it while we were dancing! Yes, it was that obvious! Didn’t we practice? Didn’t we? And we all got it correctly, right? You should’ve just made the mistake during practice! Why now?”
Ueda gasped. “WHAT?”
“Yes you did!” Jin huffed angrily in a corner while arranging his hair. “Everyone saw it.”
Junno shook his head even more. “We are on national television, you know… It was humiliating.”
“Shameful.” Koki gritted his teeth, adding in for good measure.
Kame nodded extremely at their criticisms. “I know you’re not the best dancer around here, we’re not the best dancers around here, but please do not put us in the worst by doing something stupid like that! People would think that we do not work together well as a group, and it will get us all reprimanded!” Kame shouted, flailing his hands in the air.
“Look.” Jin remarked spitefully. “It was better if only you would be scolded, but no! The group is at stake. If you don’t care much about your name and popularity, then please think about the others in the group whose name will be tarnished too! After all, this is a group!”
Junno scowled. “Yeah. This is our group. We wouldn’t care if you just had your own band or you went solo because our names wouldn’t be dragged into the dirt like that. We’re all working for our own names here, so don’t make something unscrupulous as that!”
Koki walked over to Junno and tilted his head. “You see, we’ve worked hard for us to gain this popularity status. It was five years’ work, just in case you didn’t know.” He hissed scathingly at Ueda, who was red in the face.
“There.” Kame crossed his arms and clicked his tongue. “You might realise now what was your actual mistake a while ago.”
“By the way.” Jin tapped Kame on the shoulder. “Wasn’t Nakamaru the other one who also made a mistake?”
“Nakamaru! He-” Ueda looked at Jin and Kame.
“-started the wrong move that made Ueda make a mistake.” Maru stated firmly, gazing through Kame’s eyes and without a trace of hesitation in his eyes. “I started it.”
Ueda widened his eyes and automatically narrowed it. “No. It was my fault.”
Kame looked from Maru to Ueda and rolled his eyes several times. “What? If Nakamaru made a mistake, it isn’t as bad as yours. Your mistake made the show turn ugly, it’s your fault-” he stopped when Ueda punched him on the face. Kame tumbled on the floor.
“What did you do that for?” Jin asked as he knelt down to help Kame who was wiping his mouth and glaring at the person who punched him.
“He deserved it. And maybe I’ll punch you too, and you, and you.” Ueda replied curtly, pointing casually to Jin, Junno, and then Koki. “You all cared for your names and popularity. I don’t understand you at all.”
“You’re sick.” Kame mouthed furiously and left the room. Jin and the others followed. Except Maru.
“It was my fault, wasn’t it?” Maru asked sadly, twiddling his fingers.
Ueda glanced at him. “Of course not. It was my mistake, but they’ve insulted me far too enough.”
Maru pouted and stared at the guy who was so pissed a while ago that he had the strength to punch his friend. He had never seen him do such thing. Maybe he should be good and try not to piss Ueda off. Ever.
“What?” Ueda teased, a smile curling on his lips. “Don’t stare at me like that, it’s making me feel… awkward.”
“Eh?” Maru hummed. He loved to see the leader blush.
Ueda removed his white long-sleeved shirt and nodded. “Yes it is making me feel embarrassed. I don’t know why, but it does.”
Maru grinned cheerfully as he strode over to where Ueda was standing and leaned in. "Can I guess?"
Blinking, Ueda coughed and mumbled, “As if you wouldn’t say it even if I don’t want you to.”
Maru chuckled and brought his face closer to Ueda’s. “I think I don’t want to continue the performance anymore. They can take care of it. Let them have all the fun.”

“Anou… Yuichi.” Ueda bit his lip as Maru carried him in his arms all the way to his bedroom.
“Nande?” Maru tilted his head and gazed at the pretty figure beside him as he strived to removed his jacket.
“I’m.. Gomenasai.” Ueda scratched his cheek and sighed. “I did that on purpose, you know. I was afraid that they’d shout at you again. This last few weeks you’ve been receiving complaints from them so I figured that you could share what you feel with me.” He murmured, tracing lazy circles on the bed sheet.
Maru forced out a smile. “I know.” And he hugged him.
“Don’t forget.” He heard him whisper. “I’ll be on your side always… no matter what…” and Maru felt fresh tears fall from Ueda’s eyes and land on his neck.
“Shush.” Maru caressed Ueda’s smooth back comfortingly. “Yes, yes, I know. Don’t cry, okay?" When he knew that he had stopped crying, he stood up.
“What are you going to do?” Ueda asked, removing tears from his eyes.
“We need privacy, of course.” Maru winked at him as he closed the lights.
It was going to be a very long night.
