Eviction proceedings!

Last week, we were served a three-day pay-or-quit for the back rent on this apartment. We wound up speaking to the landlord's attorney and he said they were open to taking payments. However, today we were served with the followup paperwork threatening us with eviction if we don't comply. We're trying to talk to Legal Aid. But that said, we're ( Read more... )

*hugs* I wish I were in a position to help on a practical level.

What's your situation in terms of stuff and pets? Would getting help renting a storage place so you don't lose stuff if you are evicted be a worthwhile focus? If you have pets, do you have places for them to go with friends? On the latter, I'm in Ohio, so there's the non-trivial transport issue, but I could possibly help out on that front in a worst case scenario.

We don't have pets. So much of this stuff is things we should've gotten rid of anyway. We're thinking of renting a storage place anyway. And we have a possible bolthole that I dislike but would be better than nothing. In the meantime, we have the legal process to go through. Including noting that we were told they'd work with the local organizations but apparently decided it wasn't happening fast enough.

Alas! I'm afraid I have no monetary help to give, but you're in my thoughts and all relevant appendages are crossed for good luck.

If you just want to call someone up and rant, I'm available.

Yikes!

Scared is a valid and utterly rational response. It also sounds like you're clear on the immediate next steps, and that you've already been taking them.

Any reasonable options for zero or very low cost storage? The loft above my garage is across the country and has other issues that make it suboptimal for some things and fine for others. Can you minimize your storage expense by getting rid of (and maybe selling) some of the stuff you should be and can bear to unload?

Hugs. Strength. Courage. And All That Jazz....

Please keep us posted as you can.
