Curse my nearly translucent skin!....

Today I was a big brave lysimache, and I went to Sephora, and I TALKED to the people, because I really, really wanted to try their "Pantone Color IQ" thingee. Basically, it's a camera that's supposed to take pictures of your skin (right up against it with I presume its own light so that ambient light doesn't interfere with accuracy), and average all its ( Read more... )

Aww, I'm sorry! I'm similarly pale and anxious so I imagine mine would go much the same. Shopping for makeup is just too difficult.

Awww. The SA was really nice, and I think the matches got slightly better as I was calmer/less anxious while I sat there longer (and longer...). My gf is paler than I am, and she doesn't blush as much (seriously, I turn red reaaaaaally easily), so it probably wouldn't happen to everyone who's pale and anxious... But yeah, normally I don't talk to them at all and so I like going to Sephora normally (it's my favorite store!), but for this you have to talk to them! :(

Lol, cotton candy person! Yeah, I turn bright red really easily. That color match machine thingee has scared me for a while; glad to hear my fear is justified! I cheat and order a lot of my foundation type things from Asia, land of pale love. Some of them are reasonably neutral and help knock out the obvious pinkness of my face.

Oten I photograph with a really obvious purple undertone. It baffles me.

Ahhhh, I LOVE your hat!!!! And your lippie! What a pretty pinky red! <3

I was so sad the color matchy thing didn't work. I'd imagined it as being magic and that from then on I would know what would be the right colors forever... :( But I do turn red when at all anxious/upset, so I guess it's not surprising that it didn't work; it just had never occurred to me it would be a problem.

I guess yellow-toned things would cancel out a purple undertone?...

Well, you have two things going for you:
1. You were very brave.
and
2. You are completely adorable, regardless of what that matching couldn't do.

I am sorry for the hassle, though. Argh. :(

I was so pleased with myself for being brave -- and then so SAD when I realized that probably my anxiety contributed to it not working. :(

But awwww, thank you! :)
