You know it's funny but I feel like I'm reading my own subconscious thoughts, as if the last piece of a puzzle is finally coming to light. In many ways I think this explains my lack of motivation in HS, or rather a lack of understanding "why" I was learning what they were teaching. I certainly viewed colleges more as a business rather than an educational institution. Of course you know my thoughts on the corporate system. Really good read though. XD

Yep yep, colleges are totally a business!

Their products = students

If meat factory was producing infected meat, the government would crack down on 'em. But unlike other corporations, schools aren't getting penalties when churning out unsatisfactory products (students that aren't prepared for the work industry).
And in that sense, this whole College Business is a really bad ripoff !

I mean actually. Wait a minute they they do get some penalties for one reason for another: Budget cuts. Which ironically just makes the education worse.

Love what a priority education is in the US.

Thanks for this post. I really love stuff like this. A lot of artists kind of ignore the "business" side of things so it's really cool to see that you're checking that out. People kind of think business means wearing a suit, being a stiff, selling your soul- but actually all the qualities a truly successful businessman has- motivation, innovation, risk-taking- they're all things artists or just about anybody can use.

Thanks for reading!
And yeah, the more I learn about art as a career the more respect I have for all careers in general.
Wish more people talked about stuff like this or looked for information like this , I for one am always looking forward for more insight, and can't stand that I didn't know about these kinds of things earlier!

Also, you coming to the sketchjam?! Come!

Chris you made me so damn depressed with this post because it is so true and so realistic. It all seems like common sense but applying it in reality is exponentially harder. I'M A SLAVE OF CAPITALISM CRY!

LOL aww. And yeah, common sense and how uncommon it is, or how much work and trial and error is a prerequisite to a lot of "common" sense

It's ok, for the most part we're all slaves atm, but we are getting our senses together.. and biding our time... and after we're done exploiting it under the guise of following the system, we can burst out of our ninja disguises and take the world by storm!!

I mean, not planning world domination. Yeah. That's sooo overrated.
