The only thing I knew when I was younger was that I didn’t want to spend my life living in New Jersey. I just wasn’t sure where I wanted to go

Okay, I’m going to be honest - you write rather rambling entries, and I sort of conked out by the time we got to Austin. I think if you go through and edit this to make it tighter, less stream-of-consciousness, that it would be better. Just my .02 cents.
Austin is a really fun city. If it wasn't for Justin, I'd probably move to Austin over Houston. I love how unique it is.
Austin is also one of the most liberal cities in Texas, it's def more liberal than Houston is. It's weird seeing so much conservativeness around the Houston area, but Houston is getting bluer than it used to be, at least.
I think California would be out of the price range for two teachers, though Justin and I both love Cali, we're open to Washington and Oregon too.
Reading this tale of testing the waters back and forth across so much of the country reminded me of the Johnny Cash tune, "I've Been Everywhere, Man." Interesting how much friends and family relations played into the factors for your decisions about where you want to settle down. Being from the East Coast myself, I would think the deep South would be a difficult transition to make, but, I can understand such adjustments, and I made my home in a part of the world whose culture doesn't fit with my upbringing, as well. Sorry you got screwed over by Matt, that would a rough shock to the system to take, but glad it worked out well with Justin... you'll have to tell more of that story, someday! ;-)
Reading this made me think of my own location/moving journeys over time. Other than a month and change studying in Spain, I’ve always been one sort or another of Florida woman, so no moon shots for me in location. But I like your take on the topic.
