You must have had a strained relationship with your father, at least over track. I hope he was proud of you at the end. I enjoyed reading this very much.

My dad and I are super close and he's my best friend :)

High School was tough, as was college. During high school, my dad was unemployed and we didn't have a lot of money and I think a lot of the stress he took out on me over running track was probably indirectly related to that though I didn't understand that when I was younger.

There were other family issues in college. My mom was addicted to painkillers and very abusive, which strained our relationship further.

But now that I'm an adult, we're best friends. We talk several days a week, usually over an hour, and I am just so lucky to have such an awesome dad :)

I'm sorry for the issues along the way, but I'm so glad you have such a relationship now.

I feel for you. In my family, it was maths. And I have dyscalculia so I was just a constant delusion to my super-math-brain father...and I only wanted to read and play soccer, LOL

I have dyscalculia too. My dad was pretty understanding with that, but a lot of my teachers were not :/ I was twice exceptional [gt in reading/writing, but not in math] but all my teachers only focused on my math issues and didn't want to help or provide interventions

Reading this, I feel bad not to have been in the lineage of any legacies. I am glad for your mental well-being you finally found your comfort zone with it, though.

I really loved how you told this! I'm sorry you had to experience that pressure though D: but as other comments said I'm glad you were able to make track your own and find pleasure in it!

Good for you for finding your way through all that, to find sports you enjoyed. No one should have to follow in their parents footsteps.
