Antibiotics...in...my...honey?! WHUT?!

Ok. Right. Thank you, fabricdragon for posting this article on "honey laundering" with honey from China. Not only is it undercutting prices, but honey from China often contains animal antibiotics, and further details how people were going to a lot of lengths to avoid inspection for contaminants ( Read more... )

That's really disturbing, especially for someone like me that's allergic to almost every antibiotic out there. On top of that, I'm breastfeeding and trying to limit Skya's exposure to antibiotics so that if and when she ever actually needs them they'll be of benefit to her.

I know. It's screwy. Apparently, the use of antibiotics was to help restore China's most devastated bee population. Still...gah.

Local honey is better anyway -- having it regularly has killed my seasonal plant-based allergies. Go local honey!
