SGcafe...

So, yeah, I've never been concerned much with local events. I've always been the kind to watch for the overseas stuff, pissing and moaning over the fact that I can't go due to money constraints.

Partly it's because I'd never known of any local forum, although I could easily have called up a number on Google.

Partly it's because I have pretty much no friends with the same interests as I would have for these events.

The LJ meet last September (wow, that's more than a year ago) and the DevArt meet in May changed things... and then I finally got it in my head to be less cowardly and just go out there and have fun at the events I've always been interested in.

And from there I hopped to SGcafe, not wanting to only make contact with these new friends at the few and far apart events...

Now SGcafe will be shut down at the end of the year unless someone takes over from Kenshin, the owner and overall admin. Kenshin lacks the money and the time to keep SGcafe going... and he requires somewhere in the ballpark of five figures (the total revenue needed to keep the forum going for a year is at least $12000!) to hand it over to someone/some group.

My first thought? "Motherfucker." Not directed towards Kenshin, mind, but to the idea of SGcafe going down so soon after I joined.

It's hard to think that something relatively new is going to be gone so soon. The older members are taking it much harder, though.

The bright shining thread of hope is, of course, that some rich bastard will take over and keep it going as it has been before. But that's unlikely.

Damn, damn, damn.
