The Shadow Duke, part 3

The conclusion of The Shadow Duke. I hope you enjoyed it.

I'll probably post the next story, Barbaric Treatment, in a week or two. It's very short by comparison and isn't of terribly great moment, but it'll be something to look at while I'm writing the next tale.

Edit: This is the revised version.

I'm not entirely sure I understood how they defeated the demon. Kit left some sort of energy inside him (when he drove the sword through him) and then used it to make him explode?
Anyway... this interlude was quite creepy :)) I really wasn't expecting them to run across demons.

This was one of the first stories I plotted out after outlining the first two, and I found myself with a problem: How to challenge Kit in a fight. I was very afraid I had over-powered him. A demon was perhaps a little over-the-top, but since I think it was pretty clear it was severely weakened -- due to being summoned in great haste and without the proper sacrifices -- not as much as it might have been ( ... )

Thanks, that makes sense :)
It was nice to see Kit challanged for once. He needed to be faced with situations that are difficult even for him to manage ("instructive"? lol).
I kind of like it that Tam doesn't bother with understanding the intricaties of qi. He really doesn't need to. If I were him I wouldn't bother either :))

It would help Tam if he did. One consequence of that is that he's very slow in learning how to use his own power. He'll never be really proficient with it.

I expect Kit will tend to be often challenged in non-combat situations, or where he has to finesse a situation or remain concealed rather than confront it head-on. The story I'm currently working on is like the latter, "Colder than Ice, Hotter than Flame" is more the former. That's even true of "The Secret Oasis". There are fights in it, but that's not where Kit has problems.
