Description:
Chen is practicing an English song that he doesn't quite understand, but really likes the song. He's still putting himself in his self loathing of love pain over Kris, but hesitantly asks Kris for help. Kris is uncertain whether he should comply, but his suffering heart can't deny the fact that he's still in love with Chen. While they listen over the song together...they both come to a situation where they must make...because they're "close to close" of something that'll mend their hearts...
Alrighty!! So this is the continuation of Love Pain. If you haven't read the first part...go check it out. ^^ So it's kinda obvious....this two-shot is inspired by English (British) X-Factor winner Shayne Ward's song: Close to Close. A very lovely song. I was going to make this story a one-shot but I couldn't. I had to extend it a bit more to make things...I don't know...better...? haha! No it's because I wanted more ChenRis/KrisChen moments to last longer. ^^
Um...reader be warned...this is my first (well second) boyxboy story. And I wanted to challenge myself in this. I've written smut before but only for boyxgirl...because it's what I'm use to writing to....so I'll apologize ahead of time if what I'm writing is not to your expectations... OTL
Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. The characters used in the material are only for the plot of the story. Everything and anything that's happened in the story are coincidental to any "actual" events that has occured recently or in the past.
Close to Close -=Part 1=-
"It's been a while since I've been this way," Chen sang in his head incoherently.
He listened to the song as careful as possible. He still couldn't quite catch the meaning of the first line of the song. Well to be honest, he didn't understand the song much at all. It just sounded nice. And the singer's voice was amazing, for a guy to hit notes that high amazed Chen. He wanted to take a chance with this song, sing it in class to display the English pronunciation he's been practicing and learning, though his Korean accent was still quite strong, he still practiced determinedly to get it right to the tone and pitch, along with the slur of each syllables.
Chen felt a gentle tap upon his shoulder. He turned and saw Lay with very displeasing eyes. He wondered what was wrong. Chen pulled out the earphones and smiled to wear away that sad expression his friend was displaying.
"Is something the matter hyung?"
Lay shook his head making Chen relaxed a bit. "What's gotten into you? It's like you're in a different world now. I've been calling you this whole time. Have I become a nuisance to you?" Lay didn't hide the small smirk appearing at the corner of his lips.
Chen shook his head. The question may sound like a joke, but it made Chen tense in a fraction of the moment from the words. He felt like he was the nuisance. "Lay-hyung...um...sorry. Did you need something?" Chen changed the question to why Lay was here. Lay had the tendency to lose track of his thoughts and things at times, so sometimes the roomies had to bring Lay back on track.
Lay pondered for a second. As Chen watched the other boy, he couldn't help but smile, this guy is really something. It was a bit charming at times when Lay was thinking back on things he's forgotten about.
"Oh yeah! Well...the guys and I were wondering if you want to go clubbing?" Lay's eyes were sparkling now.
Chen let out a brief chuckle. There was no way in heck he was going to go clubbing, especially with his roommates. They were crazy and loud. They always drew a crowd. But then everything goes well, because sadly, they were a bunch of really dashing young men, so ladies and even gentlemen enjoyed his friends’ eccentric aura.
"Lay-hyung...I have to study this song...I need to get it by the end of this week..." Chen slowly tried to get out of the situation as politely as possible. "Sorry..."
Chen hesitantly peered into the other boy and gave a crooked gentle smile. He watched Lay nod his head as he gave out a heaving sigh. Chen felt the odd pang in his chest. This wasn't the first time he declined in going...probably the seventh time now. It was difficult to go out. Ever since Kris stopped his advances on him...things were just...difficult to go on normally. Because the norm was that Kris always approached him, from the moment they've met till the day...he lost his chance. Oh how he misses those weird moments they shared together. Chen felt his throat tighten from the haunting beautiful memory.
"Chen...you haven't been out these past two months. We...are kinda worried." Lay sat on the edge of Chen's bed.
So it's been two months now, Chen thought shockingly to himself. That long already? This was the longest heart wrenching pain he had to endure in avoiding his encounters of Kris, or tried to, because he feared his emotions will get the best of him. It was sad that Kris was even trying to even befriend him after what they went through, because Kris dealt with the same pain, for a eleven months, nearly a year. The thought was making his eyes rim with tears. He felt so pathetically weak, two months was nothing compared to eleven. Chen got up from his seat by the desk and sat next to Lay. Now his friends were worrying about him. This was not good.
"Okay...alright...let's go then..." Chen patted Lay on the shoulder.
Lay smiled so bright his dimple went in so deep in his soft pale cheek, making Chen smile along with him. It didn't matter if he was hurt...he doesn't want his friends to bear the burden that was only his to bear.
~
Chen could feel the pounding music go through his body. This was the first time he's ever gone to something like this. He's been to really small crowded clubs, which bothered him or just annoyed him, making him leave early. This though, was something different. This place had three levels of floors and flashing bright lights that went along with the rhythm of the music. And oddly...there were no...women. Why did the guys come here, Chen wondered to himself, feeling the doubt growing deeply in his core.
"Let's go to the bar!" Luhan yelled over the music to the guys.
They all followed. Chen was hesitant, but when he watched Kris walk off by himself at a different direction, Chen debated if he should follow him...or the others. But as he debated, he looked back at the guys. They were already out of sight. Chen looked back towards Kris' direction, sadly, he was gone too. CRAP! Chen held his breath.
"Where did they go?" He hissed worriedly.
Chen walked by a crowd of six, assuming it was the route Kris took. He would rather follow Kris, he told himself. As he walked along, the music changed into a faster rhythm. Now he was being squished! The group of the six strangers he walked by were up all against him. These people were men too!! What is this place?! Why did these guys have to come up against him?!
Chen was pushing himself away from the monstrosity. He felt himself hyperventilating, something he knew that'll make him pass out any second now. ARGH! Darn him and his high senses! Chen pulled away harshly from the pool of bodies, but then suddenly dragged back in from a firm grip by the shoulders.
"Hey! I know you!" The person who pulled Chen yelled over the immensely loud pounding music.
Chen faced the young man. He looked familiar, but nothing came into Chen's mind, nothing clicked in his photo album memory. The very handsome young man smiled, which made Chen's cheek burn from his rising blush, none of the flashing lights around the place compared to this young man’s sweet smile. This guy was definitely handsome, hands down.
"Chen! It's me! Suho!" The young man beamed again pulling Chen closer to him.
Suho? .... Oh! Suho-hyung! The guy who was taking the same vocal lessons Chen was taking, the guy who was also in his Music Theory class as well. Chen nodded and smiled at the young man. Though Suho was a year older, Chen was treated like an equal.
"I didn't know you come here!" Suho's lower body was dangerously rubbing up against Chen. "So then...does that mean...you like guys?"
Chen fidgeted from hearing Suho's question and the closeness thrown at him. Like guys?! Wait!! Is this a gay...club?! Chen noticed not one single person in the huge place was female...they were all male...with masculine raging pheromones and hormones. He should have known earlier. Why did his friends want to come here in the first place?! Wait!! Is Suho...gay?!
"If you're wondering...I'm not gay." Suho smiled that dashing smile of his, making Chen blush a shade deeper. "But I have to be honest, I kinda like you."
That remark made Chen panic. Really?! Why was the world being cruel to Chen? Let other men like him...while he regrets not accepting feelings from a man who loved him so dearly. Oh the timing. He smiled to Suho shyly and gently pulled himself away from Suho's grasp.
"Uh...thanks...Suho-hyung..." Chen meekly replied over the thumping music. "Well I gotta go. Someone's waiting for me at the...uh...bar."
Suho only had a gentle smile displayed. He didn't fight for Chen to stay, which relieved Chen a whole lot. As Chen walked away, Suho was hovered by the group of men that crowded him just moments ago. Some of them brushed themselves against Suho while whispering and eyeing Chen with satisfaction written in their faces. Chen nervously watched the group from the corner of his eye when Suho threw his arms up over the guys and laughed along with them as he gazed back at Chen, with that handsome smile again.
Yep. Chen needed to get out of here. Forget hanging out with his friends. He tried to come out of his little self inflicted guilt to take a breather for once, but since it turned out like this...he needed to get back to the apartment and study that song of his.
While he nearly ran away, he saw the bathroom signs. YAY! Now he can make a swift call in the secluded bathroom and really run on out of this crazy place. Chen had to make sure the others wouldn't worry about him being gone.
Right when he was about to go in, the door opened. Chen looked up and he felt the world stop. His chest burning achingly at the sight in front of him. Kris had the back of his hand over his mouth and wiped it.
Kris cleared his throat. "Chen!"
"Um...I want to go home," the words left from Chen's lips desperately, making Kris furrow his brows together in concern.
Chen wanted to slap himself now. He wasn't supposed to say that. Not to Kris! Chen smiled awkwardly and bows. Now…he was making himself look stupid.
"I'll just go get a cab. See you guys when you get back." Chen swiftly turns trying to get away from the beautiful savage. Everything about Kris made his insides melt to the point it was alluring until it hurt to the core of his bones.
Shockingly, Chen was knocked out of his breath, Kris pounced him from behind, stopping him from running away. He felt Kris wrap the length of his strong long arm around his frail shoulders. Chen looked to his side and saw Kris' lovely features, the stern cool facile that made his heart skip like crazy.
Before Chen realized his feelings towards Kris, he knew for a fact that he was going to fall for a girl. But as he lived with Kris, he found the tall pale haired boy attractively handsome. But the looks the older gave usually intimidated Chen. So it was hard to fall for that image...especially when he usually looked furious when he expressed his feelings towards Chen. But now...now that Chen knows what he feels towards Kris...everything was heightened to the point it was extremely difficult to think clearly...even breath properly.
"Come on. I'll take you home. We'll call them when we get home." The rumble of Kris' voice sent warm chills in Chen's body.
"Oh great...now I'm gonna be alone with Kris..." Chen mumbled to himself, trying to keep his legs from wobbling and falling down to the floor.
~
Chen was in his room. He turned the music up loud enough so that Kris wouldn't bother him. Well more so that Chen wouldn't have to deal with his weird emotions in front of Kris. Chen was on the verge of going ballistic. The hurt he contained in himself was evolving into a different aching sensation that made Chen sweat. It was an anxious aching feeling.
Chen shook his head. "Focus Chen...focus on the song...pronounce the English words...and sing it how the artist sings it," he calmed himself.
As he played the song on the computer, he followed the words with his uncertain voice. The pronunciation was pretty...difficult. Chen sang along anyways, tapping the floor with one of his foot and snapping the fingers on his right hand.
Knock! Knock!
The music wasn't loud enough to plague the sound of the interruption on Chen's door. He was hesitant to open it because the only person who would be behind that door was Kris. The knocking continued again. Chen let out a sigh and walked over to the door, he slowly opened the door, and raised his head to peer timidly into Kris' intense gaze.
"Yeah...hyung--" Chen's voice squeaked at the end of his word. He cleared his throat as his face grew warm from the embarrassment.
Kris' eyes softened and his lips formed a small smile. The sight nearly made Chen's eyes watered in pain and joy. It has been so long since he's seen the older smile. Slowly, Kris brought his hand over Chen's face and lightly pinched the tip of the younger one's nose and gave a soft breathy chuckle. The touch sparked Chen's insides, making his knees tremble that he had to grip the doorframe to steady himself from falling.
"Chen..." the tone of Kris' voice lured Chen's eyes to shut slowly, the sensations that Kris was stirring in him was breaking him down almost too enticingly.
This time, Chen felt the warmth of Kris' hand wrap over his shoulder. He opened his eyes almost dreamlike. But all the warm fuzzy stirring feelings vanished the instant Chen felt a subtle impact. Kris playfully slapped Chen's soft flesh between under his chin and neck. Chen blinked his eyes in a quick motion, realizing he was acting like a fool.
"Chen, why are you listening to the music so loud?" Kris lift his brows in waiting for a response. The younger one was obviously dazed or something.
Chen pulled away from the door. The distance between him and Kris was too close for him to think of any straight answers. "Uh...well...I need to..."
Kris stared intently into Chen's chocolaty eyes, waiting for an answer. Within that moment, Chen had to close his eyes again, keeping himself from falling any deeper than he already was.
"I uh...need to practice this song..." Chen spoke a bit brash as he pointed back to the computer, slowly opening the eyes he tried to conceal from Kris.
Oh what a weirdo, Chen yelled inside his mushy mind. He couldn't make himself look any more than normal. Kris nodded his head and gave a look towards Chen.
"May I come in? Have a listen?" The look in his eyes was pleading, but the gesture of his body said the opposite.
Oh what the heck! Chen's mind was beating itself up inside. It's just Kris! ....Yeah...the Kris who's gorgeous presence that is eating him up inside.
"Oh sure...why not," Chen sounded kind of dragged. But his expression was warm and sweet.
As Kris walked in, he gave a questioning look in Chen's direction, eying the bed, making sure if he could sit there. Chen nodded once and turned to the computer and restarted the song.
Chen sang the words, pronouncing every syllable trying to get the accent as right as possible. And when he sang, the look in Kris' demeanor made Chen all the more nervous, the way Kris scrunched his brows when Chen knew he didn't sing the verses clearly, the way Kris closed his eyes when the accent of the words were a bit off, and the way Kris' lips tensely straighten when Chen took a glimpse at the older. Chen couldn't take the dang pressure much longer, he had to stop singing. He presses the space bar of the keyboard, making the song pause.
Kris looked up at Chen's back, wondering if he was the reason that caused the interruption. He stood from the bed and Chen turned around, making Kris hold his stance. They brought their eyes towards each other, and within that moment, their hearts lifted from some kind of weight.
"Um...Kris-hyung..."Chen's voice was nervously shaky. "Does it sound that bad?"
Kris shook his head, assuring Chen that it wasn't bad. The only thing that needed work on was the accents...and the emotional feel of the verses.
"Chen...why are you singing this song? Is it for...class?" Kris asked curiously, eying Chen if the words offended him.
Chen nodded. He turned around to face the computer. The look that Kris was staring him with was making his heart beat a tad bit too fast for his own good. Was this how it felt for Kris before?
"I'm just wondering...do you understand the meaning of this song?" Another question that made Chen's heart jump. The rumble of the older one's voice made it unbearable to answer. The sensation running through Chen was making him gasp for air.
Chen turned around, trying to act normal in front of Kris. His heart jumped again, this time Chen placed his hand over his chest. "Well...not really...the singer's voice was really nice...and I had to choose an English song to sing for class...so I just thought maybe...why not take a risk and challenge myself..."
Kris' head bobbed in comprehension. "Can I be honest with you?"
Chen held his breath. Crap! This is gonna be harsh, Chen just knew for a fact, from the odd feeling building inside his guts.
Kris stared towards Chen, Chen's eyes staring back at him waiting for the answer. He steadied his breath before answering. "Your English accents are a bit off the way it's pronounced....but it's okay to listen to...but...the emotional part of the lyrics are not there. You...just need to work on the emotions. Which brings me to the conclusion wondering if you understand the lyrics or not...and well...you answered no."
The words spilling from Kris' curvaceous mouth made Chen's insides tingle. It's been a while since he got a little insight from Kris. Chen missed that feeling enormously. To think that those times when Kris lectured him about issues and trying to put him on track of things in life was irritating. Now...it was just a relief that Kris would even go as far as doing so again.
"Chen...did you catch that?" The tone of Kris' voice snapped Chen back to reality. Kris slightly furrowed his brows and waited for Chen to answer.
"Kris...um...hyung...can you help me understand the meaning of the lyrics?" Chen blurted out, regretting he even mentioned the question.
Kris held his breath this time from the remark. Is Chen serious? Chen was really going to be the death of him. He was still trying to move on, but sadly unable to move past the long kept feelings he had for Chen. He may have displayed himself as if he moved on already...but he was dying inside...dying every single day he took a breath...knowing that Chen was not going to be his, didn't want to be his. Kris didn't want to hurt himself...but the younger boy...was asking for help...for the first time. How could Kris resist that request that he's been waiting for as long as he could remember from the past?
"Kris..." Chen let out his name in a breath of a small laugh, "it's alright...I'll just look up the meaning --"
"Sure I'll help," Kris interrupted before Chen could back out of his suggestion.
Chen froze from the words that slipped out from Kris. He smiled warmly towards the older one in content. He didn't care if he looked desperate or whatnot. At least this time he was going to be close to Kris...on his own request, which he almost backed out on from the doubt that Kris wouldn't want to help, but Kris agreed just in time. He was just waiting for Kris to take the chance...and he did.
