I've played the violin for (*gasp*!!!) 20 years now. It was my first instrument as well, and I'm pretty......average, I'd say, definitely not great
( ... )
Thanks for responding! Let me see if I can answer all of your questions...
1. Not really. I mean I understand how it works but I know few of the specifics and I definitely don't know about how to read rhythm.
2. Not too far. I don't generally get home from work on weekdays until 6:30 pm and I am living in Cambridge right now. I also do not own a car, but I do have a bike (which is my primary form of transportation), so I'm basically looking for something in the Boston/Cambridge/Somerville/Medford area.
3. I was definitely expecting to pay more than $20 a lesson. I have been meaning to do this for years now an I am prepared to budget a substantial portion of my income for it if necessary. The New School of Music is offering hour long private lessons for around $65 a lesson and I was definitely prepared to pay that.
Thanks for taking an interest in this, I really appreciate it. At this point it definitely looks like I will be giving one of the schools a call.
i thought of you the other day as I realized you're one of the few people I know still in the area.
taking violin lessons sounds great! I've never had lessons, nor a music teacher, so i cant make any recommendations. Have fun! let us know how it goes :)
since you didnt seem to pick up the hint about being in the area, i'm commenting again. since we're quite near eachother, we should have a "reunion" and get together. that is if you can take a break from what im sure must be rigorous violin training.
i cant do saturday :-/ i've got 2 big projects due Monday and Tuesday so I probably wouldnt have more than 30 minutes and I'd be preoocupied. but once break starts (the 22nd) my calendar's wide open. email me at amandajm at gmail dot com. :) gosh i have no clue how long it has been? since 1997 or something?
Or before. I'm always up for making music with others.
I've been going to a regular jam in Florence lately. We play everything very very slow which makes things much easier. You should look around for some such thing where you are. The sooner you start playing with (and in front of!) others the better.
