When I first saw the headline (from Google news), I could not believe that some college students are still openly racist in the 21st century, but then I read the article and saw their reasoning. Their reason made sense, but something still did not feel right ( Read more... )

Hmm, they didn't have one for Asians this time. Usually they have one for Asians, and it's usually in the higher range.

You know they had one at Berkeley too right?

Affirmative action isn't about giving people a college education at a "cheaper price." I would even argue that the sale can be flipped on the students and used in support of affirmative action (hopefully much to their dismay and confusion). The fact is that minorities and women have a harder time making that dollar than white men do. For example, women still only make 71 cents for every dollor a man makes (I think that's the latest number). So I would argue that women should have actually only had to pay $0.71. It doesn't mean they didn't work just as hard for that 71 cents as the man did for his dollar. And when considering minorities, that earning per dollar becomes even more stricking in its disparity. Haha, I think you know Fang that we shouldn't get me started on this. :-)

I don't mean to start people to argue on the affirmative action, but I thought it was interesting to see how students try to express their opinions through cookie sale. It was an interesting idea.
