Today I'm literally the only person in my 30-desk office. It's good because I can pass out at my desk for hours at a time. But now it's 3pm and I just wanna go to Karaoke!

Wow, Couldn't You Wait is at the very top of my theoretical karaoke list! Closely followed by Cat Power's Taking People.

I'm well aware that these two songs would border on terrifying if I actually got on stage and belted them out, but I swear I'm pitch perfect when I'm in my car!

Oh I can't believe I forgot Chan! I meant to include Nude as the News but now that I think about it, I do a pretty mean Taking People as well.

it's alot easier to hit a note when you have the original vocal track there as reference pitch.

I love Japanese karaoke. My favorite. . . Barbie Girl: Aqua.

That would be a good one, but I'm afraid of the soft-porn looping in the background.

oohhh! do you know of any karaoke bars over there that let you bring in your own stuff? if so, we could totally do Lazy Line Painter Jane! we could even switch up the parts; if stevie can fill in for monica queen so can i.

also: London Calling would be swell too.

i wasn't sure if 'theoretical' meant "unlikelihood of being in the karaoke book" or *cough* "lack of vocal ability."

actually at the dive in lansing where i've karaoked you can bring in your own cds and sing whatever you what. that's how my friends have overcome the dj's shocking lack of journey and prince. i'm surprised more are as accomodating. maybe we could bully one of the japanese djs into getting our way...

Karaoke in Japan is in little rooms with a remote control. No DJs to bully!

i think 'the grotesque puppet' would only work if you had someone to perform the steve solden 'grotesque puppet' interpretive dance along with it.

I don't know who Steve Solden is, but I imagine a dance for the grotesque puppet as a stylized waltz. In fact, I think I saw Kent perform this at the Kneuppel wedding.
