I got this email today. Summary: If Cal receives DMCA-related letters and they determine it's targeted at you, they'll forward you the letter but won't tell the RIAA or MPAA who you are unless they're forced to.
How? Notice how it says "Unless served with a proper subpoena, UC Berkeley will NOT release the name of the user to the content owner or RIAA upon receipt of a DMCA notice or early settlement letter."
wait wtf ive never even used internet at berk. but i signed up for summer classes so i GUESS i somehow have a berk email i dont even know about yet?? so why did i geto ne...
regardless of whether they release the name, they are under no obligation to forward the letter and are being the RIAAs bitches when they do so. there are universities out there that don't forward the letters. UCB should get some balls, remember its liberal activist roots, and do the same.
