It has been a terrible year. One loss after another. I don't know if it is the luck of the draw or that we are getting older or that the world is smaller, so we know more people and thus have more to lose, but it just seems to be one hit after another.
I don't have any good advice for you, but I wish for the best for you all.
Keep Zeus comfortable and happy and loved. That's all any of us can ask. Did I say "all"?
If those are the boundaries of Zeus's existence then he's a contented and a lucky pup.
There's no way to make endings not hurt. We humans hate to say goodbye. Dog's however, don't see future, they only know right now--and right now he has a family that cherishes him. As long as he's comfortable he's happy to be here.
When he's not comfortable anymore, then get out of his way, he's got an appointment under the Rainbow bridge.
Tell the girls, no worry, he'll wait for them, in the meantime there'll be squirrels to chase (and never catch), cats to ignore--or not, other dogs to wrestle and curl up with.

I also think asking the doctor what the options would be after the ultrasound would be good.
Big hugs to you all and give Zeusy extra scratches for me. I do love that dog.
