The tension inside the little house on Spinner's End had grown so thick one would need not a knife, but a chainsaw to cut it.
Most of that tension existed solely because of the ongoing distance between the two nominal 'heads' of the household. Despite the time spent tending Lucius Malfoy and the brief moments of solidarity against 'outsiders', Remus and Severus seemed to have settled right back into their previous routine of silence and avoidance as soon as they returned to their own home.
At that moment, while Remus was poring over Defense texts in his room (which he still used as a study despite having basically moved into the master bedroom with Severus) and revising lesson plans for the upcoming term, Severus was ensconced once more in his labs at Hogwarts. If their pattern held, Remus would go up to bed around ten to read until Severus finally came home. They would then exchange whatever news of import either had gained during the day before settling in for sleep. If it weren't for those brief moments and the resulting tangle of limbs each night, Remus wondered if either of them would remember they were lovers.
The situation amoung the rest of the house was not any less stressful.
June and Glamis were still trying to track Greyback down. The old villain was as slippery as always. Remus knew Severus disapproved of the search for vengeance. And, after their discussion upon first learning it was Greyback who was the orchestrator of their grief, Remus had slowly come to the same conclusion -- going after Greyback for revenge would do no good.
But neither would waiting for the Ministry to admit he was still a threat. So far as Remus knew, the closest any had come to finding Greyback had been himself and others outside the Ministry. This was an issue of werewolf politics, not wizarding politics. Greyback was their problem and they would deal with it.
If they could ever find him.
