The final rays of the setting sun cast sharp, black shadows upon the house on Grimmauld Place as Remus approached. He never could decide if the house looked more sinister from here across the street, or from the inside looking out. He supposed it didn't matter much in the long run all things considered. The same ghosts resided there no matter what angle one approached from.
He cast furtative glances in all directions looking for shadows of movement before making his way hurriedly across the street and around to the back entrance. 'The back entrance is for servants, Moony,' Sirius had chided him continually. But Remus had never understood the purpose of such distinctions. Besides, he was less likely to set off the old bat's portrait in the front hall coming in this way. Although, it seemed like Sirius' voice was always in his head when he came to check-in with Harry. He couldn't imagine what it was like for Harry, staying here for three years with only Ron and Hermione for consistant company.
Still, he was a bit confused as to what might have prompted Harry to contact him. Usually, he had come to Harry whenever there was something new to report. It was unusual for Harry to request a meeting...especially so close to the full moon, knowing Remus preferred to remain with the small pack of werewolves which had joined the Order's side for the transformations.
"Harry?" Remus called softly into the kitchen as he entered the house and hung his cloak upon a nearby hook. Even though he was coming in the back, he didn't want to yell and chance a lovely conversation with the essence of Mrs. Black.
