Time: Evening
The Daily Prophet seems to think it worth noting the sins and mistakes of a man who is trying to repent and move on with his life, out from under the shadow of guilt and remorse. Frankly, the entire article sickens me. This is news? To casually retry a man who has already been pardoned for his supposed crimes merely because we can?
I realize that to most of you, my opinion will count for nothing. What care you for the words of a Registered werewolf who is about to be Bonded for life to this same man the Prophet would have you revile for a past we are all trying to move on from.
But, I will say them anyway.
Severus Snape is a decent man trying to atone for the wrongs he may have committed in his lifetime. He is a stronger, braver man than most anyone else will ever be able to lay claim to. How many of you who sit in judgment of him now would have been able to do what he did? To put yourself in that position for the greater good, knowing this sort of vile, hateful slandering was most likely to be your best reward? I'd wager none of you. I don't know that I could have sacrificed as he did.
The Prophet wonders if this is True Love, if Severus Snape is all that I believe him to be.
The Prophet may kindly shove it's head between it's legs and kiss it's own arse.*
I consider myself lucky to be Bonding with this man. Yes, for those who wonder, I knew what he had done before going into this. I knew and I testified on his behalf in the hearings that gave him back this pseudo-freedom those on the Registry enjoy. I have forgiven him any personal slight he may have done me in our past. I forgive him for what he was forced to do in order to save ALL of us from the reign of terror that would have been Voldemort's rule.
And before one of you throws the first stone, I would urge you to look at your own past and be very, very sure there are no skeletons in your closets you might be just as unwilling to have the Prophet printing in tomorrow's edition.
Severus,
I mean every word of the above. I apologise for making my personal feelings and our relationship public like this, but I cannot just sit here and ripping their throats out is obviously out of the question.
I love you.
Yours,
Remus
