I haven't read any of the newer EU stuff, so this is all news to me. They killed off Anakin? That was unexpected, but I didn't really like him, even as a kid. He was far too easily set up to the perfect child and Jedi.

And Jacen as a Sith? That's...sort of ridiculous. Granted, I haven't read any of this stuff, but resorting back to Skywalkers becoming Siths is getting a bit repetitive, isn't it?

And finally, Ben: is that Luke's kid with Mara Jade? I think I might have read something about his birth, but that was years ago.

The newer stuff is the only part of the series I read now. I've never felt inspired to explore the part before 'The New Hope', and then I lost the interest in the pre-NJO stuff as well. It easily might have been some subconscious defensive reaction since, the EU being a mother of all book series, it would have eaten me alive if I were to take on all of it ;)

Until they offed him. That shocked the hell out of me, because it seriously looked like he was going to be the main protagnist of the ( ... )

I don't actually mind it when they kill off characters. Ok, I get a little rattled when they off the one that I already chosen for my lead one (in an ensemble cast, I usually pick one character and stick to him/her - oh, who am I kidding that's practically never 'her') but, other than that I think it adds to the realism and I'm all for that. I'd have been probably quite annoyed if everyone got through that huge, devastating 19-books-long war unscathed ( ... )
