I just acquired the 'Era New Horizons' Film Festival ticket card. That I bought it more than four months before the festival actually starts shows just how freaking steamed up I am about the whole thing

Oh, I forgot to take the timeframe into account. Your great-grandmother was probably born during the time when there actually wasn't any Poland left. And of course Poland used to have a much more diverse population than today. Still, I think the mere fact she was born in Nowy Żmigród at least would have given her the right to a honorary Polish button, even if she didn't consider herself Polish ;)
'The Black Donnellys' is really a fantastic show. And it's absolutely awesome how almost everyone fell in love with it right away. Me included.
I'm afraid I'm already past the 'what I want to be when I grow up' age. That's pretty sad. You know what is the most beautiful thing about wanting to be a superhero? It's that you can always yet become one. No matter how old you are. That's one dream that never dies.
It's maybe two years since I saw Apocalypse Now, and what I mainly remember about it was that it was long. I've never been big on war movies so I guess I failed to see the real greatness of the film. Not that I didn't get that it was great, it just didn't affect me quite like that. Did that make any sense??
Yeah, 'Apocalypse Now' was quite something to get through. I'm of firm opinion movies should be no longer that two hours. Making them three-plus hours long should be forbidden by law. I'm not saying here 'Apocalypse Now: Redux' wasn't a great movie, but I'm pretty sure the shorter version was just as great as well, only, you know more intensely so, since it was all crammed up into tigher timeframe.
I generally enjoy war movies. Especially the grittier ones. But only if they aren't whitewashing any side (meaning, their own side) of the conflict too much - for me there is no good or bad side in any war, there are only bad sides.
And you make perfect sense. There are movies that you see very well are great, even masterpieces, they just don't work so well on you. It's like you are looking from the outside, an impartial observer, just looking but not getting involved.
17. Where would you want to retire? Somewhere in the Scandinavia region would be great. Really, why?
I was watching it late at night too, by the end I was kind of doing other things as I was watching. I can not be expected to give the screen my full attention during that film.
There have been war-movies I've liked, but they're more about the people involved than the big battles. I did watch Band of Brothers with my dad, thought that was good.
Good, it think it was late when I commented... and I might have been running a fever, so glad you could make sense of it. :) And yes, that's what I meant. A movie can be great, and I can apprechiate that, but I don't have to love the film.
I spent magical two weeks in Stockholm two years ago (plus one day in Uppsala). I've never been to Norway or Finland, but I'm pretty sure I would love them too. They are all what I call 'highly civilized countries'. I like the general attitude of people there, I like that practically everyone speaks English, I like that everyone seems to care about enviromnent, that most of things are kept in admirable order. I liek that it's so damn pretty there
( ... )
I certainly hope so. I still cannot believe how few people watch them live. If I had access to American television I'd certainly made better use of it. The Americans don't know what's good for them.

Nonetheless, it's very very cool you have Polish roots. The best roots one can have, in my personal opinion ;)
