I look around at my friends and I wonder what is going on anymore. I used to pride myself in being the most cryptic of all of my friends, loving that I could know what was going on and they would have no idea unless I gave them a pathway. What really is security, though? Is it commitment? Is it trust and honesty? I don't think that there is true security within any relationship, because the tides can turn just as easily as when you're on your own.

I've found that the best thing to do is ask. Sometimes it's actually appreciated. If they don't want you to know, they won't tell you. But it shouldn't be an outrightly "don't ask don't tell" policy.
