Good Sues versus Bad Sues

So I originally made this video because I was going to do a fake-documentary about Mary-Sues. The term gets swung around so much that alot of people forget that on paper any character can be a Mary-Sue. Its how they are in the book that makes them a good or bad character. I just think that even if a character does have Sue-traits and can be considered (even a little) as a Mary-Sue what's important is how they fit into that universe. Artemis Fowl is a Gary-Sue (by trait), Xena is a Mary-Sue (also by traits), but they are both really good characters and that's what's really important.

I agree with you on this. I'm currently writing a novel in which my main character has traits that would be "Mary Sueish" to some, although I have reasons for them. As long as they have depth and their appearance/talents, etc. are explained, then they can still be likeable.
