I have loved all the of the Artemis Fowl books, with the exception of The Lost Colony, which I only liked (Minerva is to blame). I haven't read Artemis Fowl before, but I'll give it a shot once school is over.
But yeah, the original covers are much, much better. Then again, I prefer simplicity in my book covers.

(Even though Colfer keeps denying that they're an impossible couple...Pssh, yeah, okay, he knows deep down he ships them.)
I mean, jesus, he put an elf/human married couple in the book. (and, you know, made them freakin' kiss!) He can never go back from this! He will NOT be pulling a Leia/Luke on me! (NOT exactly them, but you get my point.)
