I would save the carpal tunnel on the scene rant. I was thinking of a scene rant as well recently, but decided not to post it. Rather just try to stay positive and just keep trying to keep spreading the word on upcoming shows and hope for the best. And if that doesn't work, the Department Of Sceneland Security might just have to start bringing a shovel to the club.
Progression needs to be every weekend at City Club. Something has to give. It's become an old timers club playing a lot of older songs. At least it has seemed that way for a long time. I don't go to City nearly as much as I used to but when I do go, there doesn't seem to be a very consistent younger crowd.
I think there are quite a few tracks from the mid to late 90's and beyond that need to be put away for awhile.
4/4 oontz all the time doesn't seem to cut it anymore- be it harsh stuff or synthpop.
Might be a good idea to open things up a bit more to bands like IAMX, The Big Pink, Even throw in a Muse track from time to time, some of the darker trance stuff sounds pretty good.
There is a new generation of club kids and City Club needs to do something to attract them. I can't see them doing very well staying the present course. Maybe they are just planning on riding things out doing the same old thing until the bitter end and then closing shop.
Every week!? Agreed. I'm trying to do my part, but the kids also love their old school nights too (which is good as it educates them on the history).
Agreed that some tracks just need to be retired. I've gone thru my cases and removed a bunch of overplayed disc to replace them with others. I wish other dj's would do the same but I have no control over anybody but myself.
Funny you should mention IAMX as I was checking out the new single in depth today at work. I like! And well we know my love for the Big Pink. Yeah stepping out of the industrial genre every now and then I would welcome. Might as well, as they bitch regradless (LOL)
Always good to see ya at the club and I appreciate your support and more importantly understanding of the ideas behind Progression nights.
Not sure when I'll be in Detroit next, but I'd love to come out to hear new tracks. Really sick of hearing the same songs over and over at clubs. Good luck to you!
