Sep 05, 2006 01:05

Who: Zabuza and Greed.
Where: A bar in Lithium portal, eventually.
When: Sunday night.
What: Talking about the monster issues.
Warnings: None, probably.

Greed waited by the entrance to the portal, arms folded across his chest and no trace of a smile on his face. Tonight was probably not going to be the most amusing of evenings, but this was something ( Read more... )

For his part, Zabuza still wasn't sure how he felt about winter time yet. Currently he was annoyed, but that could be blamed on the lack of appropriately warm clothing. Not that it mattered because all of his winter clothes were worn out anyway- like the back sweater he was wearing. He had no idea how old it was, it had already faded to an odd shade of gray, there was a hole on the elbow and right wrist, and the seams had begun to fray.

He probably looked homeless.

But it was a bar they would be headed to so then again, he might actually fit in. Hands buried deep in his pockets, Zabuza finally caught sight of the other, wondering vaguely how long he'd been waiting. Of all people he certainly hadn't expected to be discussing something like this with Greed. Not that he had anything against the guy, quite the contrary. He found the man amusing and remarakbly level headed when it counted- so he was one of the few Zabuza actually....enjoyed? being around.

He came to a stop beside him, arching an eyebrow. "Ready?"

Lips twitching slightly at Zabuza's choice of outfit, Greed gestured towards the portal entrance in an "after you" motion. "Sure," he replied..and then, unable to resist a gentle tease, "Monsters get to your wardrobe or something?" Well, his own outfit - plain grey sweater and jeans - was nothing impressive, but oh well.

As they came out into Lithium Portal, Greed immediatly turned down one of the side streets, leading Zabuza to one of the shadier bars. They'd be assured of privacy there, and it almost reminded Greed of the Devil's Nest back home. Once there...well, it would be time to try and make some sense of all this.

He didn't pay much attention to the jab, knowing it was done mostly out of fun. Instead he shrugged, knowing well enough what he must look like. "I don't get out much." He answered simply, following the other's lead. Zabuza had no idea where they were headed because he hadn't seen much of the town other than its library. He vaguely wondered how Greed had found this bar in the first place- but again, this was Greed after all. The guy seemed to know pretty much everything.

If the bar's appearance bothered him any, he certainly didn't show it. After all, they were here for business, and he was sure Greed had his reasons for choosing this place. He held the door in a rare glimpse of courtesy, allowing the other to take the lead once more.

Nodding in thanks, Greed stepped through the door, letting the sounds of music and murmers of conversation fill his ears. Pushing his way to the bar, he grabbed a couple of beers off the barkeep and lead Zabuza to a table off to the side of the room. Sliding a beer across to the other man, he sighed and leaned back in his seat.

"So...what've you got, man?" he said bluntly, keeping his voice low and direct. "I recognised some of those monsters, they were from my world, but most I had no idea. You found anything out?" It was strange, how easy he found it to trust this man...but he'd shown himself to be reliable and observant, always a good thing to have in an ally. Trust had to start somewhere, after all.

As solitary as he was, the clamour was a bit overwhelming at first, but he forced himself to adjust. He was far from being a 'social person' so large gatherings of people always irked him a tad. Zabuza wasn't entirely sure why that was so, but he was sure it had something to do with the fact that most people were excitable idots who stood too damn close to him for their own good- but that was really beside the point ( ... )

Taking a short swig of his drink, Greed stared blankly at the table and mulled over the reply. Zabuza had a point...there was no reason to attack a school full of very dangerous people, when there was an easier target around. Unless..a frown crossed his face.

"I've been assuming they were after something physical, but what if the goal was just to take out as many of us as possible? Those things were pretty mindless, I can't see them being given a mission that's not killing." The frown deepened. "And if we add that to what you said, we have a damn strong force trying to kill us."

He glanced up, meeting Zabuza's gaze. "And the tower killed a lot too...there's not many left."

Zabuza frowned slightly at the thought. Losing the tower had been a terrible tragedy, and Greed had a point. There was no reason to do something like that unless the goal was to kill.

"But why choose Odin tower? I thought perhaps it is a personal vendetta of some kind on some level- whoever is responsible is surely from someone's world. And why haven't the teachers told us anything? They don't seem to have any more answers than we do." His grip tightened on his beer unconsciously, trying to make sense of it. "What I'd really like to know is how all of those things got here in the first place. If they used the portal, someone in the town would have seen. The only other option I can come up with is summoning- but I'm far from an expert in that field."

"Personal vendetta...yeah, not really any other explanation for why Odin alone. The fact that they didn't get the other towers too is decent evidence of that." Greed sighed, mentally running through everything he knew...which still wasn't much. "As for the teachers, well - if anyone would know, it would be the Headmaster, and I haven't seen much of him since I got here. They're not really keen on talking to us, it seems."

As for how the monsters got there..Greed was even less of an expert on summoning than Zabuza, he'd had no real experience with the concept...but there was something he could mention. "Don't know how some of them got in, but I know there's monsters in the forest. Me and Reno ran into one of those dinosaur things one time. Someone could have driven them into the school...perhaps whatevers after the place is in there?"

Zabuza paused noticably, his beer hovering mere inches off the table in mid-thought. He assumed that all of the creatures had been summoned- but wasn't it equally possible that they were as near as the forest. Brows furrowed in concentration, he set the beer aside, chin resting on his hand. "You'd think that if those things were in the forest, that the staff would've told us."

It was infuriating, and it felt like going in circles. "Either way, we should ask some of the summons students about it, or even the professor. At least then we'd have a better idea of how the whole thing works." He ran a hand through his hair, quite possibly more irritated now than he'd been before; after all, these questions only lead to new questions and no one was telling them anything.
