Fanwork Rec : Harry Potter : Snarry fics (Severus Snape x Harry Potter)
'Coz I'm so high on Snarry fics right now, despite everything that's going on. So here is a quick fic rec for anyone who likes the Harry Potter series, Harry, and Professor Snape. (If slash or Snape x Harry is not your cup of tea, or if you're not of age, you would want to hit "Back" on that navigation bar right now.)
Disclaimer: The Harry Potter fandom is astronomical in size and has the uncanny tendency to pair anything up with anything. And covers all kinds of kinks and other insalubrious things under the sun. For instance, I recall an explicit Giant Squid x Gryffindor Tower fic which, by the way, was hilarious.
My fic recs will be Severus Snape x Harry Potter with the occasional gen. The only genres that I shy away from are death fics, torture or serious SM, and contrived and overdone angst. Read the warning for each fic to make sure you're on friendly ground. I don't know what took place in Deathly Hallow, and my comments will evince my ignorance (which would be dealt with soon, maybe this Christmas).
Also just know that some of the fics were written maybe even before Goblet of Fire and won't keep to the canon storyline. I made note of significant spoilers.

Summary: Harry ignores some good advice.
Comment: Almost drabble length in a wonderfully sententious style. I came to the end and had to do an instant re-read because, because, AHHHHHHHH! ... This would be hauntingly plausible in the canon. A MUST for anyone who likes the interaction between Harry and Snape in the books. This was an entry in 2006 Snarry Games, Team Angst, Prompt "Correspondence".

Summary: Severus drags Harry to a Wizarding auction.
Comment: Remember that droll sense of humor from book one, Philosopher's Stone, when we were swept off our feet in an eye-popping introduction to the world of the magical folks and Hogwarts? THIS is it, with a very Snape-like Snape and Harry-like Harry. I have read and re-read this countless times and will continue to do so <3 This was set in the "Primer to Dark Arts" universe by same author. You just need to know that Snape and Harry were already together.)

Summary: After the deaths of Dumbledore and Voldemort, Severus Snape must learn to cope with yet another Master, Harry Potter.
Comment: For those of you who goes, "But Snape and Potter HATED each other!", this is the fic for you. Snape was not a nice man (by far, haha). Neither was Harry (hoho). And any more words from me won't do this fic justice, so just go read it! I worshiped this fic when I first read it. This was an entry in 2006 Snarry Games, Team Angst, Prompt "Courage".

Summary: After the war, Harry wants answers. Snape's willing to give them. For a price.
Comment: A lovely, lovely fic. And I failed at describing how I love this, except there were angst a plenty along with fluffy romance and wacked out humor, with all the canon sneers and snarls and CAPLOCKED shouting hysteria. And hot smex. Yum. This piece resonated with some of my take on the boy, in that Harry really had no chance of developing a healthy mental state of mind. Not with all the prejudice/expectation/death threats weighting on him just because he was breathing. And Snape, in his twisted way, might/could be the one to guide the boy to some semblance of sanity and peace. This was an entry in 2006 Snarry Games, Team Angst, Prompt "Pensieve Memories".

Summary: Harry Potter's writing skills are, in a word, unique. Professor Snape is about to learn this in a most unforgettable way.
Comment: Snape was trying to do his job. Harry was NOT helping. Like "Cursed Artefacts", this fic carried that goofy sense of humor from the novels with perfect execution. Humor on crack with liberal doses of smut.

Comment: One of first Snarry fics I read that snared me into this fandom. A warm and fuzzy (Parseltongue!!) fic despite the, ah, unconventional method (you'll see, you'll see). Whee, I have several more from Dementor Delta that I need write up a proper rec for; this one got the first spot since it's one of my first favs from her.

Ah, this is not a "favorite" ranking by far (I've too many of those!). They are all on my "favorite" list.
Now for the must-have resources,
The Essential Snarry Reader - A FANTASTIC Snarry rec site with a comprehensive collection of recs and tons of links to resources, interviews, metas, other rec lists, etc. Run by three mods and offers a wide range of selection. Really, this is probably the only site you need to bookmark.
Walking the Plank - The main Snarry fansite with a wonderfully large collection. I'm really, really glad that we finally have such a user-friendly, comprehensive site. Haven't had something this good since the old Snarry megasite Detention went away.
Snarry Games - First launched in 2006, a yearly challenge for writers and artists that attracts many of the best talents. I'm only familiar with the first round, e.g. the 2006 fic round, since I want to finish the books before running across any more spoilers. As a whole, the qualities vary between the fics, but some of my greatest loves are from this very event.
