I know that produce stand and they have a mighty amount of controversy surrounding them.

Oh yea, like what? I noticed he hired twice as many people as he's gonna need, figuring on 50% attrition rate right off the bat. I thought that was a bit odd. Maybe it's not. So what can you tell me about the controversy?

I've heard about the music being ...err... challenging for some people. (I'm a new friend to you and haven't had a chance to catch up on your journal, so I dont' know your stances on all things yet)

I've also heard about the pay not always being so good or fair for some of the workers.

Yea, well, yesterday I noticed that they had the radio tuned to a certain station, and the guy was singing along with "Falling onto Jesus". I thought maybe it was due to it being Sunday, but nope, that's what they had it tuned to today too, so I figured it was on every day. Hey, I'm tolerant of alternative lifestyles, if he wants to fall onto Jesus, he can do whatever he wants to Jesus in a song, or in his head or the privacy of his own home. Not at work, though, that's where I draw the line. I don't wanna see that!

But I'm going to be paid three cents more than minimum, so that's pretty good for me, a totally upstanding adult with, oh, let's just say many years of retail sales experience. : - /

I was hoping for more juicy gossip, like that there's a smuggling op going on, or they sold magic 'shrooms. Oh well, I like your diplomacy! touche!

Learn the pricing on your own time, perhaps? I know it sucks, but if you like the work, a little extra effort might go a long way. This is assuming that the aforementioned "controversy" isn't "the boss is an unreasonable asshat".

I am laughing, though I should be crying! The day before I even started the job, I spent about two hours on the list. Half an hour walking around the market, writing down prices. Then at home, 1 1/2 hours typing it in to the excel file. This doesn't count studying it later on, the night before and the morning before work. Then I worked the first day. Then after work I wrote down what the plants and the dairy stuff cost. Second day of work, a Thursday, and that's the day when most of the prices change, after they got their major delivery. So after work, I stayed afterward and wrote all the new prices. Go home and retype the list, printing it out different ways, and quizzing myself on them. I walked around my own garden, asking myself what my fava beans would cost (1.69/lb) the leeks (1.98/lb) the cilantro (.59/bunch) etc. But there were like 140 items, not counting the plants and dairy! And since most of them had changed, it was over 200 prices. Good thing I don't have young children at home, or they would have gone hungry and gone to ( ... )
