Get out, she almost tells him, I don't want you here, not right now. But she does, of course, and that's the problem. "If you looked like a fool it was your own doing," she says, "Because, as ever, you spoke without knowing, without understanding. You knew your decision when you walked into that room, and do not tell me otherwise."
She notices that, and it stings, make no mistake. "I would not have you standby and do nothing. Do you not see how happy he is? Give him a chance at happiness. I saw no lie in that woman's eyes. Speaking of her, he comes alight. Would you steal that joy from him when he has just had a chance to taste it?"
