I agree with ya. My father's side immigrated from Germany, as well as my mother's, and they did so legally. I think most Americans support immigration, as so far as it is done legally. What gets me outraged is when people illegally enter the country and then drain what little funds there are for social programs.

I think you are totally correct about this. But a little 2 dimensional. The US doesn't just hand out green cards to anyone. I married an American and it wasn't even simple for ME to get a damn green card. You can't just decide you want to live in the United States and the government will send you forms. You have to marry an American citizen or be sponsored by a company or something along those lines. And most illegals I don't think have those sort of methods available to them. And they want a better life. So illegal entry for them might be their only hope of it. I'm not saying it's right - I know the expense and crap I had to endure to get here legally, I can only imagine how it must be for them. BUt you are totally right, they're here illegally they can't really expect the law to make exceptions for them. If they receive any amnesty it should be because the gov. recognizes their contribution to our economy and is willing to commemorate it by offering them a deal. No way should they just be handed legal residency or it ( ... )

We have a big march here in NYC today for the immigrants. I sympathize totally. We do need them. I feel illegal immigrants should be offered an amnesty of sorts - maybe a work and residence visa that has to be renewed at five year intervals (or similar) where they are free to go home to their countries for visits etc. and legally be allowed back into the US. Either this or they should be allowed a temporary visa and be eligible to apply for green cards - going through the system at the same cost and procedures that legal immigrants do - I'm one myself so I know what that's like. I don't think you can just go "OK all you millions of illegal immigrants - you can just stay and become citizens" as they ARE here illegally and to get to that stage for most people is difficult and expensive anyway. However, you can NOT call these people felons nor imprison them for being here. You can deport people or you can help them become of legal status so they can pay taxes and expect services like the rest of us. Me, i'd go with the resident/ ( ... )
