I feel like an anachronism. There is a little shopping area close to where I live, but earlier I couldn't find a darning needle anywhere, and now I can't find a decent fountain pen. I prefer fluid ink over ballpoint-ink, is that so weird?

it's not really weird I'd say.
Just not what the average person uses most often. You will probably have more chance in a bigger stationery shop.
