Disclaimer: Ah, I don’t own these beautiful men. If I did, I highly doubt I would be writing this entirely fictional piece of writing.
Comments: For some reason my mind was on puzzle pieces yesterday at school. So I used that to get this started. And then when I got home, I learned that today was Aoi’s birthday. So I wanted to get something in there about his seemingly depressed attitude toward turning 30. :3 So that's how this little number came to be.

Happy Birthday, Aoi~ ♥

Drinking with Uruha, Reita, and Ruki on a Friday night wasn’t exactly Kai’s vision of a perfect evening. It didn’t help at all that the last piece of their oddly shaped puzzle declined their invitation. But with the majority of the GazettE there, the picture made between them was viewable. Even individually their puzzles were whole.

Reita and Ruki fit together to form the picture of a demon waiting to be unleashed and a villager cautiously conversing with it, trying his best to keep the beast from releasing its wrath. Uruha stood well by himself. He took the form of a kitten with eyes beaming solely on curiosity. When his other piece was present another kitty joined the scene. A kitty with a distinct rainbow fluff between its ears. Usually the multicolored one would be causing mischief or lovingly bothering the other. It was strange to Kai how such conflicting personalities could match up so well.

“You okay?” Uruha asked through slightly slurred words.

The drummer nodded, not wanting to get into why he was feeling down, knowing it would probably seem weird to explain to Uruha that he was missing his puzzle piece.

Uruha opened his mouth but immediately shut it, quickly turning to peer at the two blondes beside him.

Even Kai had to give in to the urge to see what had happened.

The guitarist arched an eyebrow at them, a smirk forming on his lips as the two laughed their heads off. Well, Ruki was the one lying on the floor clutching his sides; Reita was still in his seat, shoulders shaking violently and a hand failing miserably at covering his mouth.

“Okay, what the hell happened the five seconds I wasn’t looking?” A pause was heard in their laughter, but only for a second before it started all over again. “If you guys don’t tell me- hey you might want to check on Ruki, Reita.” Uruha’s voice bounced, laughter being the contagious thing it is. He pointed to the blonde, who was grasping the bottom of Reita’s pant leg and gasping for air.

“Will you do something?”-Kai tried to hide his face behind his hand-“People are starting to look.”

Reita waved the brunette off, slowly bending over to pick his lover off the dirty floor.
“Ru, stay down there and you’ll get sick,” he sighed, brushing the specks of dirt from the younger’s shirt.

“H-hey, I think we’re gonna go,” Ruki huffed, finally calm enough to catch his breath.

Uruha gave them a final smile and watched as Ruki nearly fell flat on his face, Reita quickly grabbing the smaller one’s arm and wrapping it around his shoulder.

Kai quietly said goodbye to them even though he knew they couldn’t hear him.

Sitting there alone with Uruha wasn’t bad, he thought. As long as the blonde let him sulk without questions, he was perfectly-

“Now that they’re gone, what’s up?” The guitarist looked sideways at the brunette, hating not knowing what was bothering his friend.

Kai took a deep breath, still contemplating whether or not to explain his weird view of everyone as puzzle pieces. Then again maybe he could just play that off as being drunk despite only taking three sips of his beer. He was sure Uruha hadn’t been paying attention to how much he wasn’t downing his drink.

“I’ve... been thinking. That’s all,” he said simply.

The blonde’s brows furrowed. “It’s more than thinking, Kai. You seem so... distracted. ‘Specially since Aoi said he didn’t wanna come out for drinks.” Uruha took the glance Kai gave him as a sign he hit the spot. “You shouldn’t be so down about him.”-he wrapped an arm around the drummer-“He’s just depressed about his age-”

Kai gently shook the hand away from his shoulder. “It’s more than today, Uru.” He pushed his drink away and placed his head on his arms. “It’s been for the past few months. I don’t feel right without him. It feels like... like I’m incomplete. Reita and Ruki and have each other. You have Miyavi. Who do I have? No one, and Aoi seems like he doesn’t need anyone either. I’m just an incomplete puzzle.”

The blonde looked kindly at his friend, pulling him into a light hug. “You have all of us, Kai.” The blonde tensed for a second. “Kai-kun, I’ll be back in a few minutes. Don’t leave though!”

The brunette, thankful to be out of the hug, raised an eyebrow as Uruha made his way to the front of the bar and disappeared through the glass doors. Kai shrugged. Must’ve forgotten something he had to do, he thought.

Kai groaned quietly, squirming in his seat. He had expected the blonde to be back in five-ten minutes at the most. Maybe Uruha actually ditched him, though? Twenty minutes of sitting alone had definitely not been on Kai’s evening plan. He slowly outlined the rim of his glass with his finger before deciding to get up. If the blonde asked he would simply say he thought he wasn’t coming back.

“Kai!”

He spun to find Uruha fighting against the crowd, lugging someone who obviously didn’t want to be there by the looks of it. Someone that made Kai desperately want to get out of the bar.

“Sorry it took so long, I had to do some convincing on my part,” he panted. “You two catch up while I catch my breath.” He pushed Aoi toward Kai and took a seat down from where they were standing, making sure it was close enough to hear what they were saying but far enough so it wouldn’t feel like he was intruding.

Kai’s jaw fell open. He couldn’t believe Uruha actually managed to bring Aoi down here.

Aoi stifled a yawn, taking a seat. Kai did the same.

“So,” Aoi began, “what’s so important that I had to get out of bed and let everyone see how old I’m getting?”

Kai almost felt sorry he said anything to Uruha. Aoi sounded so distressed, embarrassed. He played with his thumbs.

“I’m not sure what Uruha told you, but I didn’t have anything that important to say. If anything really.”

Aoi cast a glance towards Kai. “Oh.” Then his eyes flicked to Uruha, who was “secretly” watching them from the corners of his eyes. He was hoping he wouldn’t have to get involved because he knew Kai would get mad-if the drummer could get mad-at the way he would go about it.

“Kai, what about what you were saying before?” Too late to back out now. “You know, about wanting Aoi around and only feeling complete when he...” His voice faded out. Kai was sending daggers his way. And Uruha thought Ruki’s glare was scary?

Aoi turned back to face Kai. His face contorted in a way to show he was thinking, trying to process this information.

Kai’s cheeks burned fiercely. Uruha had no right to go and say that. Thinking of revenge plans wasn’t something Kai did often, but he was sure to make a mental note of making one for Uruha.

“You really feel that way?” Aoi questioned, feeling it was best to get Kai’s attention away from the cowering Uruha.

Kai shifted uncomfortably in his seat, unsure of how to answer. “It’s... hard to explain,” he hesitated. He gently rubbed his temple, trying to fend off the growing headache.

Aoi made a strange sound in his throat, like a cross between a growl and a cough. “Once you admit it, love isn’t that hard to explain,” Aoi said matter-of-factly, nodding.

“Oh, and you’ve had to admit your love for someone?” His tone dripped with more acid than he had preferred.

Aoi rolled his eyes dramatically. “If you’re not smart enough to figure it out then that’s your fault.”

Kai brought his eyebrows together in confusion.

Frustrated, Aoi sighed loudly. “Let’s look this over. I”-he pointed to himself-“refused to come down here earlier. Then hours later, Uru”-he pointed to Uruha-“told me you weren’t your usual happy-go-lucky self. So I came all the way down here in the middle of the night on my worst night ever just to see if you”-he poked Kai’s forehead-“were alright.”

The drummer drew back, rubbing the spot Aoi pressed. He drew his hand back, taking a chance to eye the guitarist directly in the eyes. He saw something he thought humans were incapable of showing. Truth. Pure honest truth.

“Aoi,” Kai spoke softly.

He replied with a hum, giving the drummer a sincere look.

“My head hurts.”

Aoi raised his eyebrows, not exactly expecting that sort of response. He let Kai lean on his chest, gently stroking his mess of hair.

Uruha grinned inwardly as he got up from his seat and offered the bartender money for the extra drink he ordered.

He was sure he wasn’t needed anymore-at least not tonight. No, he wouldn’t be actually involved in their new relationship till it came to sex night. Thankfully, that won’t be a while, he thought, judging by their personalities.

He gave them one last look before exiting through the door. The image of Aoi holding Kai like that, being so kind, gentle, barely pressing his lips against the other’s, was burned into his mind for the remainder of the night.

He took out his phone and flipped it open. He shoved it back into his jacket pocket knowing the person he was going to call would already be sprawled out on his couch flipping through the channels, waiting for him to get home.

Uru chuckled to himself. Sometimes it amazed the blonde just how attached the other could be. Leaving thirty messages practically back to back, Uru knew it wouldn’t be difficult to persuade Miyavi into just cuddling tonight.

“Hey, Rei!”

The bassist looked up from his magazine. “What?”

Ruki ignored the agitation in his voice. It wasn’t his fault the bassist expected sex when they got home. Ruki wanted to work on a puzzle instead.

“I found it!”

Reita groaned. “Found what, Ruki?”

Ruki picked himself off the floor and stood in front of Reita, holding something close enough to his face to make the bassist go cross-eyed. Reita roughly pushed the vocalist’s hand back, eyeing what he held.

“I found the last piece!”

Seeing the look on Ruki’s face, Reita couldn’t help but smile at him. Eyes bright, dancing, and a smile planted on his lips. Cute, he thought. And over finding a puzzle piece.

The small blonde got on his knees and slapped the piece into its place.

“It’s cute, isn’t it, Rei?”

Reita pecked Ruki on the cheek, looking at the picture formed by the small cardboard pieces.

Again, he had to think it was cute. Not as cute as Ruki looked when he found the final piece but cute nonetheless.

The image was of a baby panda, happily chewing on some bamboo. It seemed content, almost overly excited, to be held by someone as it was in the picture. Nuzzled up to the person’s chest, putting complete trust in that person to never let anything bad happen to it. And with the final piece in place, the person’s face was revealed. Complete. Finally the panda had a face to put with who it endeared so much.

And the person smiled down at the panda, looking as if he was tempted to give the panda a little kiss on its small, furry head.

Yay, I finished it! And on time too! *dances* Blah, I couldn't help but get pandas involved. x3 Comments are love, yeah. ♥
