Two Weeks from Now...

I'll be back in London this time on holiday rather than working. I've been watching the dollar crash further and further over the last two weeks with a growing sense of dread. At least it's not as bad as the first time I went over when $1 bought 33 pence. At the moment at least it's 40 but i'm still expecting it to crash further ( Read more... )

Remember those joyful days of near-parity with the US$ when books bought on Amazon were so very, very cheap? *sighs wistfully*

If you are in Austria, I can highly recommend the Achensee (lake up a mountain). Sangerin and I spent last New Year's Eve there and even though I was an absolute mess grieving my step-father who'd died just before Christmas, I remember how beautiful it was. Sangerin also tells me that Salzburg was lovely - but I spent our 24 hours there in my room sobbing. Definitely planning to go back sometime when I'm not in full-on mourning mode.

We've already got at least a day planned in Salzburg. Considering both Rox and I are musical geeks I made the mistake of jokingly bringing up the dodgy cheesy Sound of Music tours and she jumped at it. Part of me is looking forward to it the other part is cringing at the cheesiness already.

I have a feeling Austria is gonna be one of the countries where we don't see much but stop and break up the train ride for a day or so. Considering it'll be between Prague (the place she can't wait for) and Rome (the place i'm looking forward to) it could be rushed over. But thanks for the tips! Will start looking into them more.

If you have a chance when you're in Italy, go down to Naples and do Pompeii. It's still my fav place of all from when I was there. Just, whatever you do... don't overnight in Naples. If you must stay, go to Sorrento Beach which is just down the road.

Okay cool will keep that in mind. We probably won't be heading further south than Rome and probably going to Venice for a couple of days plus maybe Milan but we'll see. I'd kinda love to go to Pompeii but I think that will have to wait for another time.
