I discovered that SecondDaughter had never even heard of Gordon Lightfoot's song The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, let alone listened to it, so I of course hastened to fix this gap in her musical knowledge.

Six and half minutes later she declared, 'it's very BLERTA, isn't it? ' Which if you know NZ music is kind of a compliment and kind of not.

Oh, well, that's a bummer. BLERTA was very hippy, very earnest (or at least this song was) and slightly over the top. I suspect SecondDaughter was reacting to the earnestness and drama of Lightfoot's song when she made her comparison.
