A pleasant diversion

The wonders of the internet mean that I've had a chance to watch the seventies adaptation of Raffles with Anthony Valentine and Christopher Strauli. It is very of its time, as is the source material, omg, but fun for wiling away a few hours. This entry was originally posted at https://mab-browne.dreamwidth.org/421629.html. It was clearly a prestige thing (like The Pallisers, which I did watch back in the day), and it's a lot of fun. There's a small but devoted slash fandom, no surprise about that.

I used to like Valentine, he came across as a very charming man.

I'd mainly met Valentine in Callan as Toby Meres, and it was always my regret that they couldn't get him for more episodes and the seventies film they did of the original Callan pilot, because he gave a charm to Meres that makes him believable as a person and not just a stock character.

And Major Mohn in Colditz - not so charming!
Yes he had a lovely urbane air and a nice smile.
I read the book (?a book of a series?) after watching the series. And woow - yes, the undertones more like overtones...
;)
