I miss Ron Santo.

SMALL OBSOLETE CORNER OF THE INTERNET, HELLO. My lovely handsome boyfriend had my computer repaired (my laziness and brokeness having prevented me from doing so), and so now I am using this shiny box. Rather than using a shiny red egg-shaped thing that predates the Department of Homeland Security. It still works, kind of, that egg-shaped thing ( Read more... )

somewhat expected disappointment, adventures in part-time employment, okay more than occasional politics

I've recently started going to the board of ed/board of finance meeting. Wow, are some people dumb. Haha.

Seriously! It is worrisome, when the only people who care enough to go to things like that are NUTS.

Very nice to see you here.

I've been meaning to send you this, but I am lazy and self-involved, and you probably already know about it, but here it is anyway:

The Chicago Rule is in effect: when one Chicago sports franchise is kicking ass, the others MUST SUFFER.

Stupid baseball. Serious question: why isn't Ron Santo in the HOF? I read his stats, and it seems like he should be. And he was an epic announcer - does the baseball HOF induct people important to the league, like the NBA does?

Ha! Ha ha ha. Well. Ron Santo isn't in the Hall of Fame because the Hall of Fame is completely batshit crazy about some things. He hit tons of home runs, had a high average, was an excellent third baseman, and isn't in the HOF because...there is no real reason. Some people will say it's because he did that thing where he clicked his heels when he won, and that really pissed off the other team and the other team's fans, so the veterans and the writers (i.e. fans) don't want to let him in. Some people will tell you it's because he wanted to be in, really really wanted it, and openly campaigned for himself, and wasn't ashamed of this at all (which: why should he be? he deserved it), and that is, like, Unseemly, and they didn't want to give him the satisfaction. You have to remember, these are baseball writers voting on this, and then the Veterans Committee, so we are talking people who have a somewhat unrealistic view of How the Game Is Played, because you know in the Golden Age, everybody was Ted Williams and Babe Ruth and Walter ( ... )
