well, I hate to be all 'cult of mac' but the ipod touch is available pretty cheap these days and very user friendly (probably what I'll be getting for my dad down the line, to teach him the wonders of modern technology).
I don't think any of the regular mp3 players have radios (or do they? damn, I haven't looked in awhile...) but you can get the app store on the ipod touch, and most radio stations are putting out apps to stream their content from online directly to the 'pod. :)
but other than that, you'd have to have itunes installed, yadayada, not many people like being forced into the software so you should probably see what players go with which software so you can weed out the ones with limitations on music types, etc.
iPods are pretty user friendly; it's why they're so popular. I ended up getting one (after really wanting something else) because every accessory is made for iPods and I wanted options. Ultimtely, the only thing about it that vaguely sucks is that you need to use iTunes to put anything onto the iPod. However, it is very easy to use.
That said, if you buy something from Creative (probably the best competition against Apple), they all seem to feature FM tuners and seem to cost less than iPods.
Yay! Long time no see/hear/write! *GIANT missed time hug*
1st make sure you ripped the tracks as MP3s. Windows Media may have defaulted to making them .wmp files. In which case you'll either need a player that supports that (Zune, I think, or otherwise made by Microsoft), re-rip all your music to MP3 format or download a converter (my favorite is Switch and it should be free). iPods can handle both MP3s and iTunes formats but I don't think they hand with .wmp's
