The temps at night have dropped, so the usual NC summer bug problem is under control again and I can cross Borax off the shopping list for a while (actually not, because it is AMAZING for dealing with skanky work uniforms. From what you say, I'd feel right at home in your place. J loves to collect clutter too :-) I've become less of a collector over the years but I still remember the feeling :-) I love homes that look and feel like actual personalities live there. My mother's house could appear in "Modern Homes" or some such journal, it's all tidy and neat and sterile.
Here with us we've by now weeded out our friends to be used to dog and cat hair everywhere, more or less cluttered cupboards, and a nose in the crotch for a greeting (that would be Neo, not me, mind). Those who remained friends, we keep. The others can go and pose for "Modern Homes".

Working may have a lot to do with it. If your work is staying at home and caring for the family, then the tidiness of that place is a showcase of how good you are in that line of work. For women with a job, it's more of a place to live and throw their feet up.
