It really comes down to this: Are you going to Pennsic because you want to, or are you going because you always go and feel you should? If you want to use your vacation time on Pennsic, go to Pennsic, if there is something else that you want to spend your vacation time on do that.
For a couple of years I used ALL of my vacation time on long weekends for faire, which was fine at first, but then I realized I needed a break. When hockeycat had been working full time and finally got some vacation time, we decided that for the first time in 5 and a half years we were going to take a week long vacation, and we went to AZ for a hockey tournament last year, and had an absolute BLAST!!! We are going again this year, but because of lack of vacation time and costs and such, this year we are only going for the long weekend. The key to vacations is to do something that you enjoy.
Actually I have been going on and off for a while. It used to be the thing i did every summer through my college and grad. school days, but luckily I got over that. I skipped a few years, went back I think 2 years ago, was annoyed with the classes I took and the camping arrangements, Not bad, just the people we stayed with were too damn'd into the politics and you know what...IT's a HOBBY! I'm not going to spend more on my hobby then I can afford too (this includes mental energies). So we haven't been in a few years, also due to faire seasons. So we are thinking of going again. There are other things we want to do, but everything is on equal fun footing. And I don't want to come back from vacation, thinking I need a vacation.
