According to one of our clients there was a news story last night around here about exactly that: foreclosures and people just letting the cats go and leaving the dogs in the house and leaving ... that is so not cool and pisses me off. You have no idea how many phone calls I would get at the Humane Society about people moving, mostly out of state and 'could not take thier pet'. I am bitter about people most of the time. Anyways, I could rant forever .... suffice it to say I agree with you. :)

Yeah, as I kept reading the article I just kept getting more upset.

I grew up with lots of pets, and my mom would always take in sick, injured or abandoned animals and try to nurse them back to health (not just pets, but wild animals.. like little birds or squirrels that fell out of the nest, that sort of thing).

So when I think of people abandoning their animals or, worse yet, locking them up to die it just pisses me off so much. If these are families... what are they telling the kids? I think if we'd had to move and my parents had tried abandoning our animals my sister and I would've flipped out. :(
