You know, one of the problems for someone who writes poetry is also one of the greatest inspirations: music. Every now and then, a tune or the way the lyrics wrap around it, will get stuck in my head. And no matter what I have rolling around inside of me, it just doesn't fit with the music. The music makes me want to write, and then keeps me ( Read more... )

Are you trying to write poetry and set it to music or is the music inspiring you, but then you lose it?

The music inspires me, and then I lose it. Sort of. The song I was referring to in this post has a really strong beat, despite being sort of low-key. And the vocalist sings the lyrics in a strange way, too. Almost like they have their own beat. I felt like my words came out almost sing-song-y, but not as cute as that term implies. It was strange, but it does happen sometimes.

If any of that makes any sense...

I get it. You're making sense.

I understand about the vocalist having his own beat too. Old Tori Amos stuff does that to me too. Her voice has it's own beat that is almost in direct opposite of her tune sometimes. Which is why I like it.

When I write poetry, my stuff usually comes out full stop. Like one big vomit. LOL

But the times where I've had really good fragments come out (like spit-up) I just keep it written down somewhere until the rest of it wants to come out it and eventually it does.

I know that's a gross analogy, but it's the only one I can think of!

Oooh, Tori Amos is a good example...

Haha, it's a gross analogy, but I like it. And it works, too. I have dozens of saved Word documents with only a line or two. I wonder if that isn't just a "writer thing."
