...and most importantly, DROP THE DAMN DRM. We're tired of being restricted as to what devices we can play our content on. Look how successful the music industry has been going DRM-free; iTunes and Amazon are selling more music than ever! Sell us movies and TV DRM-free. There's little to no incentive to pirate when we can get a super-high quality version without DRM for a fair price.

You've got such an excellent point. You know what it is that I can't watch Game of Thrones unless I get a cable subscription AND an HBO subscription? HBO provides no legitimate way to watch it online, even for a fee. So I have to resort to torrents. :P
500 channels, 499 of which I don't even watch, is one of the main reasons I disconnected my cable TV several years ago. A directional UHF antenna on the roof of my house and the internet (via cable) is all I need. These are good ideas you have, Mach, and I'd probably sign up for cable again if it went a la cart.
unfortuantly, you're mixing up the cable company and the broadcasting company To make a rough analogy broadcast company is Amazon, while the cable company is FedEx. FedEx doesn't set the warrently or license on the computer you bought, neither does Amazon, the manufacturer (production company) does

Oh you're 100 percent right. I understand that the two are not the same company. I'm basically speaking to them as one entity because as far as an end consumer is concerned, they are. They are the ones that have to make this work between them, they make the deals, sign the licenses etc
