THIS: This season always made him sad; his heart, otherwise buoyant throughout the year, would gradually turn colour from brilliant red to muddy brown, just like the dying leaves that clung desperately to those frail trees.

AND THIS:
Pieces that could never be picked up and melded back together to turn back the hands on a clock that ran too fast.
