Main character: Ruki
Word #151: Sedate
----------
Ruki sat at the window of the small hospital room, his eyes staring blankly, unfeelingly, out the dusty panes. It was a cloudy day, grey and overcast. Would it rain again today? It always seemed to rain around here, yet it was never enough. It was never enough to make the grass grow.
His fingers rubbed over each other, dry and cracked, peeling in some places. They used to be smooth, and supple, and loved. Now they were just useless, unwanted, just like him. Just like the person he had become.
A door creaked open, and a nurse peeked into the room, seemingly satisfied that Ruki was alive when she saw his compulsive little movements. Alive. What did that even mean anymore? Ruki felt like he simply existed; it wasn't living when you couldn't feel anymore. When you couldn't feel your pain, or your joy, or your heart.
He was just waiting to die, waiting for his body to give up, surrender, to stop struggling against what it couldn't control. And so, he sat there everyday, staring out that dusty window at the grey skies and heavy clouds, waiting for the rain. And when those weighty drops fell upon the glass and upon the dirt, colliding and spattering, Ruki wished that the grass would come alive again at their touch.
