Machi found the note under her door as she walked into her apartment. From the handwriting alone, she knew it was from her father. It was the head maid’s handwriting but the only reason she would be leaving messages under Machi’s door would be at his request. With a deep breath that Machi took every time her father contacted her, she opened the note.
“Come to the main house,” was all the note said. Machi thought that this was her father’s typical style. He couldn’t be bothered with details or etiquette. His way is to give an order and have everyone around him to obey. As expected, Machi followed the order.
When Machi walked through the front door of the main house, she noticed that her brother Kakeru was summoned to the house also. This was strange since Kakeru wasn’t the type to follow orders from their father. Machi wondered what this is all about. Unfortunately, all conversation dried up when Machi’s mother walked up to them.
“You’re late.” With that, she turned around and walked towards the patio. “Come.”
Machi was a little angry with her mother’s words. How can I be late if there wasn’t a time written on the note? Machi thought. Having learned that all words were useless against her mother, Machi followed along with Kakeru.
On the patio, their father was seated at his normal chair. The one chair that faced the doors and had the backdrop of several stone statues behind him. It was an attempt at intimidation which normally works in their father’s favor. However, Machi and Kakeru were used to this tactic by now.
“You wanted us, Father?” Machi inquired. Machi noticed the way that the servants were standing that something big was happening. Deciding that ignorance is the best course, she pretended not to notice. Her father spoke.
“I have need of you two to deliver packages for me. I am far too busy to deliver them myself. The packages are over there. The address is on each package for where it is to be delivered. That is all. Go now.”
Machi’s mother turned towards her husband. “You can’t seriously depend on these two, can you? They are impossible to deal with! It would be impossible for them to deliver the packages. They aren’t good enough to handle the task. You are only setting them up for failure. These two are so… boring.”
Angered by her mother’s word, Machi walked up and grabbed a package. She took one look at the address and walked away with the package. Wordlessly, she marched towards the door. Machi stopped before leaving. She looked at her mother when she said, “It isn’t impossible with people who love and respect us around. I guess this task would be impossible for you, mother.”
Machi walked away as her mother screamed, “Did you hear what that brat said to me?! That child is impossible!”
