Chinese New Year Party

Feb 06, 2008 18:11

Machi wasn't thrilled to be at the Sohma temple. She wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for Yuki Sohma. He wanted Machi to attend his family's Chinese New Year celebration. Yuki really wanted a big party since this would be the first year in which the Sohma temple allowed outsiders inside the grounds for New Year's. Akito still wanted his ( Read more... )

Hiro arrives at the temple entrance, slips out of his geta and enters the temple proper. He has never seen this particular temple before, but it is quite lovely in his opinion.

Machi saw Hiro's arrival from the temple's steps. Machi noticed that the gentleman was Japanese and she wondered if he was a guest of the party or just some lost person.

Given that people couldn't see the temple under normal circumstances, Hiro's reaction to see this temple was expected.

In her soft voice, Machi called out, "Moshimoshi? (Excuse me?/Hello?) Dochirasama?(Who are you?) Ansan haguru?(Are you lost?)"

It occurred to Machi that the gentleman might not understand Japanese if he was a guest from another country. She called out immediately in English, "Are you here for the party?"

Hiro bows. "Watakushi no namae wa Nakamura Hiro desu." He's rather surprised when she speaks English. "I have never seen this temple before. You are having a party?"

Watashi no nihon'go wa mada heta desu.

Machi gave a small smile. "Hello Nakamura-san. I am Kuragi Machi. We, as in the Sohma family and myself, are having a new year celebration. This is their temple. It is... not normally seen by many people."

Machi really didn't want to get into the 'outside of time' aspect of the temple.

"Would you care to stay for the party? This is the first time the temple is opened to the public. It is quite a rare event."

OOC: My Japanese is horrible. ^_^' The rest of the conversation will be in English if you don't mind.

Chuck had spoken to Machi a couple of times but still was pleasantly surprised to receive an invitation to her party. He's quite amazed by the temple where celebration is taking place and takes a moment to look at it.

He then slips off his shoes and enters with a shy grin on his face.

Machi noticed Chuck from her place on the temple's steps. Being careful not to ruin her kimono, Machi made her way to him. "Hello Bartowski-san. I'm glad you were able to attend this party."

Machi blushed a little as she extended a rat plushie to Chuck. "It is the year of the Rat."

"Hello Machi. Th-thanks for inviting me. This is...quite an amazing place!"

Chuck took the plush rat and grinned. "So it is," he said. "He's cute. Thank you for the gift."

Chuck then pondered for a moment. "I'm trying to remember what year it was in the zodiac for me when I was born. September 1980...that makes me a Monkey, right?"

"You're welcome, Bartowski-san. I am glad that you came. This is the first time this temple is open to the public."

Machi thought it over about the animal sign. "Yes, you are a Monkey. Maybe we can ask Ritsu-san about your fortune later. Speaking of which, we have some talismans if you want any. There is health, wisdom, love, good luck and many others."

Anakin arrived at the Sohma temple and exchanged his shoes for the slippers offered, then surveyed the scene. He wanted to thank Machi for the gift she'd sent him, and he was curious about how this foreign holiday was celebrated.

Not surprisingly, he didn't know any of the other guests. He wasn't sure what to do; Obi-Wan was better at social customs than he.

Machi was working her way around greeting people when she came across Anakin. Machi smiled at the Jedi's expression of uncertainty.

"Hello Anakin-sama. I am glad that you came. Here, this is a token of this celebration for the year of the Rat." Machi held out a Rat plushie.

"Hi Machi," Anakin said with a smile. He took the plush rat and looked it over curiously, chuckling. "Thanks. I've never actually had a stuffed animal before. Children sleep with these, right?"

"Yes, some children do sleep with these. Some girls collect them because they are cute."

Machi looked quizzically at Anakin. "Is this your first Chinese New Year celebration? If it is, would you like me to show you the traditions?"
