finally got the videos uploaded to vimeo, so heres a demo of my Masters project. everthing needs remaking, next stage is to make it all wireless and put all the circuitry into a box you can wear, will make the whole thing alot more robust and performance worthy. After that its all about working with other musicians and rewriting my arduino code. ( Read more... )

I was fascinated by the idea of brain wave based noise music but the result was never compelling (meatsweats) but that really impressive. Stupid question i suppose but is the system ever going to be commercialised ?

i cant imagine it being commercialised to be honest but i suppose it depends if people really wanted it, in all its cost about £600 to make so far so it wouldnt be cheap at any rate. Its a well interesting field though, one that i could easily get into. Its probably the same type of thing i will look at when i (hopefully) so my PHD after this, so im sure in the end i will get to work on something commercial

I was thinking of buying a theremin last xmas, but instead i bought a velvet jacket, so much more creative lol. 600 quids of material is a lot, but i guess youd pay less if you bought the components in wholesale ? Anyway i guess it wouldnt go under a grant ; I think this whole matter of physical interface for electronic music is extremely interesting ! I remember a couple of years ago seing this video of a tabe/touchscreen interface developped by an italian school, where different objects where producing various effects, tempo, synths, etc. That was really impressive.

Pretty cool man. Nice to see it working. I could see how that could have many applications in usage -especially for the dutch, they're always pretending they're controlling the music with their hand movements, now they actually can!
