When my youngest son was in 2nd grade we moved to Biloxi (from Kansas). His teacher had a strong southern accent and he picked it up from her. My other two kids picked up an accent also but it took a little longer. It's funny to watch a home video from then and hear all of us but I think we all still say "y'all" and "fixin'".

I have picked up some southern words too. But I am often told that I sound funny saying "ya'll" because it isn't with a southern accent! :)

Ya'll has moved into the west coast slang language too. Cept we use it as a shortened version as youknowhwatImean (exp. Her blue and red hair looks so hot ya'll?). or... ya'll as in.. How many of ya'll (group) can we pile in and on top of the car? In the south isn't it used, like for one person?

No..pretty much the same as you described. In the midwest though we usually said "you guys". When I first moved here I was made so much fun of because I said "you guys"

i don't have a southern accent and i grew up here my whole life with 2 non southern parents. so you still have hope! :)

I don't know who you are trolling my livejournal..but I don't appreciate it. My son pronounces it just as I have spelled it in my post "ya'll" That is why I wrote it because it is humorous and wrong. Stop trolling my livejournal please
