I've been opting out for years. No presents. I don't even do the pilgrimage home. I will buy someone a present when I feel like it, if I feel like it, if I think it's something they will actually like. I will visit someone when I want to, not when corporate culture tells me to. It's a bit awkward - present-giving is so ingrained that I end up getting a lot of unwanted garbage anyway, plus I get a lot of pitying looks from people who think I couldn't possibly *want* to be by myself - but I like it. No stress. No malls, no best behaviour around irritating relatives. Opt out! Opt out!

(Why is Sinterklass from *Spain* specifically?)
