"Eww! Look it's the retard!"

"Gross! Watch out you'll catch the stupid disease too!"

"Dummy! Go back to retard-land where you belong!"

The children were circling around their larger prey and made faces as they pointed accusingly at the trembling figure. The sun gone and the sky purple, it was still warm outside with a slight breeze. The ringleader picked up pebbles and threw them. Soon after the other kids

joined in.

"Why do you even come outside? No one likes you!!"

"I hate you! We all hate you!"

"You don't deserve to be loved."

All she could do was weep as scratches began to form over her legs, her frail arms, the tanned flesh of her cheeks. Their attacks lasted for what felt like hours. They usually ambushed her every other week, sometimes several times a week. To the children, the pebbles were fending off the monster that stole the hearts of their families, but to the monster it was just another piercing reminder that she was different.

"...m..yeon-ah....", she whimpered.

"What are you crying for! Shut up!"

A girl that looked about 6 shoved her down. Her bottom hit the rough concrete and the skin of her left knee tore slightly as she fell feebly with a soft thud.

"SooYeon-ah!!" She cried aloud like a balloon bursting from over-inflation.

-

Jessica wiped the sweat off of her forehead. She clicked send. After receiving the email successful message and a few clicks later she hit print. Pushing in her chair her co-workers watched with eager eyes as she approached the Optimus Prime size printer. The printer made a low humming sound and ejected several papers with colorful graphs and alternating languages. Jessica ran her fingers over the warm letters. She sucked in a deep breath and...

"IT'S DONE!"

From Jun the secretary to SooJin the executive, everyone roared and hoorayed.

"You did it Miss Jung!!"

The army of suits congratulated Jessica, each giving her a handshake, pat, thumbs up, and a teary life-threatening hug from Tiffany.

"Sica-yah! I'm so proud of you!!"

"Okay, okay! I know!! Let go!"

"You know, you're my favorite Jessica in the whole world?"

"Yes! All right! I'd like to live another day to be your favorite too!"

"?"

"In approximately 15 seconds I'm going to die from suffocation if you don't let go of my neck."

"Oh, oh!"

Tiffany quickly released her jaws of life (or death, that's what Jessica says) and brushed Jessica's shoulders.

"You did well best friend."

"Haha. Thanks."

The rest of the room was crowded by the door already packed up and ready to leave. The desk lights were all shut off.

"Oh gosh. Look at that! We're late. Let's go!"

"Oh no, I can't. I've got....you know...at home and it's already late."

SooJin pivoted and playfully glared at Jessica. Her heels glistened in the late afternoon sun.

"We can't have our playmaker missing from the scene."

"But I-"

"No buts! This project was one of the most difficult I've ever experienced and without you we would've never finished it. So even it's for a few hours, join us tonight to celebrate! What do you say?"

"Yeah!"

"Miss Jung, you've got to come!"

"We're not going without you!"

Her co-workers whined and stomped their feet as if children begging for candy.

"...fine."

"Good choice, Jessie."

Tiffany smiled as she handed Jessica her purse.

-

"Oh my goodness, really?"

"Uhuh! I'm saying they broke up!"

"What was Miss Joo thinking when she did that?! Is she crazy?"

"I know! He's one of the most wanted bachelors!"

"Exactly!"

Jessica scoffed as she heard a few of the secretaries gossiping about the VP's recent break up. The beer in her cup moved in sync with her bouncing wrist. The music was some group other than SNSD so Jessica began to tune out the sound and focused on lining up the peanuts with the goldfish. A hand came and destroyed her artwork. Jessica glared at the intruder.

"What the hell Tiffany?!"

"Oh come on! Are you really going to be a debbie downer?"

"You just godzilla'd my artwork."

"Boo. Let's dance!"

"Boo. Go away."

Tiffany tugged on Jessica's wrist and flashed her infamous get-everyone-of-every-gender-to-do-things-for-me-because-I-have-a-face-you-no-one-can-turn-away smile.

"Fine, only one song though."

-

Everything was going pretty well. Tiffany looked like a tornado on Kansas and Jessica like a wannabe Beyonce on steroids. It was fun for them, disastrous for the people in the line of fire.

-

The music pumping. The lights blinding. Hearts thumping. Speakers rocking. Ladies dancing. Boobs bouncing. Men watching. And, stop.

"WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!"

40 shocked clubbers.

15 strobe light rotations.

2 angry blonde Koreans.

And a broken nose later.

Jessica was storming out of Club IO.

-

"Oh come on, Jess, come back. It was an accident."

"That pervert is getting to your head. Tell that shit that they're lucky I didn't call the police."

"Jessie! It was just a slip of hand-"

"And it just happened to land on my butt? HUH? IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE TRYING TO SAY?"

"...No.."

"I'm hanging up."

"Wait, J-"

Jessica took out her battery and threw it out the window. She sat back down to a dozen wide-eyed high schoolers. She was aloof from the rest of the passengers, in her own atmosphere.

"What're you looking at?"

"N-nothing. We're sorry ma'am."

She ran her fingers through her hair as she struggled to calm herself down.

How could someone touch her butt?

Without her permission?

That bitch had some gigantic balls to pull a stunt like that.

I'm never going clubbing AGAIN. Jessica thought. She felt a light tap on her shoulder.

"What?"

"Aren't you SooYeon unnie?" A small highschooler asked with minimal movement.

"Yeah. What?"

"You live with Yuri unnie, right?" The girl replied with a concerned expression.

"You know Yuri?"

"I saw her crying earlier. Do you know what happened?"

"What! Is she all right?" She shot up from her seat, scaring the students into theirs.

"I couldn't understand what she was saying through her sobs. You might want to go see her. She seemed really sad."

A fuse snapped and Jessica screamed at the poor old bus driver to stop. She ran out onto the street and sprinted home.

A bajillion thoughts racing through her mind.

-

"Yuri-ah? Yuri-ah??"

Jessica yelled as she opened the door. A pair of familiar but unwelcome shoes greeted her. The sensor light flashed on as she stepped inside. She almost slipped running to Yuri's room. About to turn the knob, she stopped at the mumbling voices. Jessica placed her ear against the cool wood surface. The roughness of the door made her forehead cringe.

"Hahahahaha! That's so funny! Tell me another one!"

"Okay, one second unnie. Oh man."

"What's wrong?"

"I have to go home now unnie."

She rustling and quickly removed herself from the door. Joohyun came out with Yuri following right behind. Yuri's eyes met with hers for a second and she froze at Yuri's accusing gaze.

"Don't go yet! Spend the night!"

"I'm sorry. I can't tonight unnie. Maybe tomorrow?"

"Really? That's a promise right?" Yuri beamed at the younger girl.

"Of course. Don't forget to text me unnie and don't peel off the bandaids until tomorrow morning, all right?"

"...oookay."

Yuri's shoulders slumped and Joohyun hurriedly held them back up. Smiling, she gave Yuri a long hug and picked up her backpack.

"Bye bye unnie!"

"...bye..."

Yuri's adorable frown tickled Joohyun's heart. She pulled Yuri around and furrowed her eyebrows. Using her fingers to hold up the ends of Yuri's mouth to form a lopsided smile she said,

"Didn't you forget something?"

"..oh yeah! Hahahah. Bye Hyun-ah!"

Joohyun closed her eyes at the sudden warmth on her forehead. Yuri waved her hand and closed the door behind Joohyun.

-

"Yuri-ah..."

"...."

Jessica's hand turned red at Yuri's slap. She followed Yuri inside her room. There was orange peel and drawings of keroro scattered on the floor. Yuri hid under her covers. The bed sunk in the corner as Jessica sat.

"I heard you cried today. What happened?"

"....."

"Hmm?"

"I don't know."

"Did you hurt yourself?"

"I don't remember."

Jessica breathed in deeply and tugged slightly at the white blanket.

"Did a dog scare you again?"

"Noooo."

"Ahjumma yell at you?"

"Nope."

"...Were the kids mean to you?"

"..maybe. I don't remember. It was a long time ago."

"Did they hurt you?"

"No!!"

Instantly worry filled Jessica's eyes and she tore the blanket off. She placed her hands on Yuri's cheeks and could only stare. She bit down on her lip harder at every scratch.

"Ow!"

Jessica got up off of the bed and made Yuri stand. She bent down, pulled up a side of the bandaid, and felt her heart grow heavy at the sight of the rosy raw scar on Yuri's knee.

"I'm sorry."

"....."

"Did it hurt a lot?"

"...."

"I'm really sorry, Yuri-ah. I'll never leave you alone again."

"...."

"Really. I really won't."

"It hurts, SooYeon-ah."

Yuri dug her head into Jessica's open arms and began to bawl. Jessica placed her arms around Yuri's waist and patted her back. Yuri tightened her arms around Jessica.

"Don't leave me alone again. Promise me."

"I won't ever again. I'm sorry Yuri-ah."

"It's okay. As long as you come back."

Her smile faded as she remembered.
